Experienced Carpenter – Commercial Building, Minor

Works & Maintenance

Experienced carpenter looking for variety, responsibility and quality work?

Effective Building Group (EBG) is looking for an experienced Carpenter to join our in-house building team.

We work across commercial, government and education facilities throughout Perth, delivering building maintenance, minor works, refurbishments and reactive repairs.

We’re looking for someone who is confident in their trade, thinks ahead, communicates well and can take ownership of the work in front of them.

This is a hands-on carpentry role for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving and working across different building environments.

About the Role

You’ll work across a broad range of commercial building and maintenance works, including:

- General carpentry and building maintenance

- Doors, hardware and timber repairs

- Internal fitout and refurbishment works

- Wall and ceiling repairs

- Structural and remedial carpentry

- Building fault-finding and troubleshooting

- Roof and gutter repairs

- Minor concrete, paving and general building repairs

- Reactive maintenance and make-safe works

The role will vary from smaller independent jobs through to assisting with larger works managed by our Project Management team.

EBG’s current capability spans carpentry, maintenance, painting, refurbishment, roof and gutter repairs, fault diagnosis and remedial building works, so the variety advertised here reflects the actual work undertaken by the business.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced carpenter who:

- Has strong all-round carpentry skills

- Can review a scope and plan the best approach to complete the work

- Takes ownership of jobs from start to finish

- Is confident working independently when required

- Communicates clearly with managers, clients and other trades

- Can identify issues early and propose practical solutions

- Is organised with materials, site setup and job documentation

- Takes pride in workmanship and presentation

- Understands the importance of working safely in commercial and live environments

- Is willing to pass on practical knowledge to apprentices and less experienced carpenters

EBG’s field handbook already expects tradespeople to maintain clear communication, apply their trade knowledge and experience, troubleshoot building issues and provide practical solutions.

Experience We’d Value

Commercial building or maintenance experience would be highly regarded.

Roof plumbing experience would also be a strong advantage, particularly experience with:

- Roof and gutter repairs

- Flashings

- Leak investigation

- General roof maintenance

- Working at Heights

Experience across refurbishments, remedial works and occupied facilities would also suit the role well.

Essential Requirements

- Certificate III in Carpentry

- White Card

- Current Driver’s Licence

- National Police Clearance or ability to obtain one

- Full Australian working rights

Why Join EBG?

- Competitive hourly rate based on experience

- Weekly pay

- Company vehicle and fuel card

- Quality equipment, uniforms and PPE

- Stable full-time employment

- Varied commercial and government work

- Strong internal support and systems

- Prospect to broaden your building knowledge and responsibilities over time

- A team that values accountability, reliability, pride and practical problem-solving

Those values are consistent with EBG’s current company framework, which specifically emphasises accountability, responsiveness, pride, reliability, integrity and problem-solving.

Is This You?

This role will suit someone who enjoys being trusted to use their experience.

Someone who can look at a job, understand what needs to happen, plan the work properly and get on with delivering it.

You don’t need to know everything, but you should be confident in your trade, comfortable asking questions when required, and willing to take responsibility for the quality of your work.

If you’re an experienced carpenter looking for a long-term role with varied commercial work and a team that takes quality seriously, we’d like to hear from you.

I think this positioning is much closer. It attracts the experienced foreman/supervisor-type carpenter without advertising that opportunity, while still being equally relevant to a very good carpenter who has never held a formal leadership title.
