A well-established, family-owned bulk materials business in South East Queensland is establishing its first dedicated Health, Safety & Environment function, and is looking for a leader who wants to build it from the ground up.
About the Role
This is a genuine chance for a HSE role, sitting within an operation with complex, heavy industrial plant and equipment. Rather than just maintaining an existing safety system, you'll also be designing and embedding the organisation's safety framework, policies and culture, working directly with senior leadership during a period of significant change for the business.
You'll need to be equally comfortable setting strategic direction and getting out on-site with operational teams, as this is a hands-on, practical HSE leadership role, not a desk-based compliance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement the organisation's HSE management system, policies and procedures
- Lead the uplift of WHS compliance across a complex industrial operation with heavy plant and equipment
- Build incident investigation, risk assessment and root cause analysis frameworks
- Establish safety culture and engagement programs across an operational workforce
- Conduct site audits, risk assessments and hazard identification, driving corrective actions
- Lead emergency preparedness planning and contractor safety management
- Build HSE reporting and performance frameworks to support senior leadership decision-making
- Partner with leadership to embed safety as a genuine cultural priority through a period of organisational change
What You'll Bring
- Significant WHS leadership experience in an industrial, bulk materials or heavy-plant environment
- Demonstrated experience building or substantially uplifting a safety management system, not just maintaining one
- Tertiary qualification in WHS and relevant certifications (Lead Auditor, Cert IV TAE, or similar highly regarded)
- A genuine "builder" mindset, comfortable operating without heavily established systems in a business still shaping its direction
- Strong stakeholder influencing skills, with the credibility to drive cultural change at a senior level
- A practical, site-based leadership style balanced with strategic capability
What's On Offer
- A genuine opportunity to build a safety function from day one and shape how it's done
- Direct influence and visibility with senior leadership
- The chance to leave a lasting mark on the safety culture of a growing operation
