With arguably some of the best ocean views of any workplace on the Sunshine Coast, Alex Surf Club is looking for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead the kitchen team at The Lookout Bistro.

Alex Surf Club is going from strength to strength, and this is an exciting opportunity for a strong kitchen leader to step into a key role within our award-winning Club.

We are looking for someone who can bring fresh ideas, strong leadership and a genuine passion for great food while creating a positive, well-organised kitchen environment. You will have the opportunity to put your own stamp on the Bistro, develop menus, mentor your team and work closely with Club management to continue evolving our food offering.

About the role

As Head Chef of The Lookout Bistro, you will take ownership of the day-to-day kitchen operation and lead a team of chefs and kitchen staff in delivering consistently high-quality food in a busy Club environment.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading, mentoring and developing the kitchen team

- Overseeing the daily operation of The Lookout Bistro kitchen

- Developing fresh, seasonal and commercially viable menus

- Bringing new ideas and creativity to the Club's food offering

- Maintaining consistently high standards of food quality, presentation and service

- Managing food costs, portion control, wastage and kitchen profitability

- Managing stock, ordering, supplier relationships and stock rotation

- Ensuring effective kitchen rostering and appropriate staffing levels

- Maintaining strong communication between the kitchen, front-of-house and management teams

- Ensuring food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards are maintained at all times





- Managing dietary requirements and ensuring appropriate food preparation procedures are followed

- Supporting efficient service during high-volume periods

- Building a positive, professional and supportive kitchen culture

About you

We are looking for an experienced chef and people leader who takes pride in both their food and their team.

You will ideally have:

- Previous experience as a Head Chef, Senior Sous Chef or in a similar kitchen leadership position

- Strong leadership and team management skills

- Experience working within a busy, high-volume kitchen

- Strong menu development and food costing experience

- Excellent understanding of food safety, hygiene and WHS requirements

- Strong stock control, ordering and wastage management skills

- The ability to remain organised and calm during busy service periods

- A practical, hands-on leadership style

- Strong communication and time management skills

- A passion for developing people and building a great team culture

- Creativity and the confidence to bring fresh ideas to the kitchen

Experience within a club, pub, hotel, resort or high-volume hospitality environment would be highly regarded.
