“Join Our Team at RSPCA NSW: Calling All Bubbly, People-Savvy Volunteer Champions”

Do you love working with people just as much as you love helping animals? Are you the kind of person who can bring a team together, keep things organised, and make sure everyone is set up to succeed?

We’re looking for a Volunteer Co-ordinator to help recruit, train, guide, and support our incredible volunteer team at our Illawarra Shelter.

If you thrive in a busy environment, love coaching others, and enjoy keeping things running smoothly — this could be your perfect role.

What is the purpose of the role?

The overall purpose of this role is all about ensuring our organisation is always supported with the best, most reliable, and most engaged volunteers, and that they’re set up to make a real difference for animals in need.

Our Volunteer Co-Ordinator is responsible for on-the-job training of volunteers (and supporting staff in how to work with volunteers), keeping volunteer skills and records current, and matching volunteers to meaningful roles that suit their strengths — all while keeping our volunteer community informed, engaged, and inspired.

What are the key responsibilities?

- Recruit, train, supervise and support volunteers to high levels of performance, confidence and role satisfaction
- Maintain a strong volunteer roster to meet operational needs (including occasional weekend work to cover opening hours)

- Work alongside key stakeholders to understand training needs and help volunteers fulfil productive roles
- Keep accurate and up-to-date volunteer records, training and hours in the RSPCA NSW Volunteer System.
- Evaluate volunteer performance and provide constructive feedback when required
- Conduct regular check-ins and periodic performance appraisal
- Ensure volunteer environments are safe and compliant with Work Health & Safety requirements
- Ensure compliance with RSPCA NSW policies and procedures

What are we looking for?

- A confident communicator who can inspire and guide a team
- Experience coordinating, supervising or training volunteers/staff (or transferable leadership experience)
- Robust organisation skills — you love a system, a roster, and a well-run process
- Comfortable using databases/systems and keeping accurate records
- Ability to give constructive feedback and support performance improvement
- A calm, practical, solutions-focused approach in a busy shelter environment
- Passion for animal welfare and RSPCA NSW’s mission

Why work with RSPCA NSW?

- Purpose-Driven: Support a cause that matters and be a part of a community dedicated to the well-being of animals.
- Access to WHEREFIT program
- Access to confidential and professional counselling services through our staff and volunteer assistance program.
