There is an exciting opportunity to become part of the Northern Territory's thriving tropical plant industries sector. Working as part of a Territory-wide Research, Development and Extension (RD&E;) team, you will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills while contributing to the advancement and support of this important and growing economic sector.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries is seeking a Plant Pathologist to support plant pathology research, disease diagnostics, disease surveillance, and disease management programs that underpin the productivity and sustainability of Northern Territory plant industries. The position will contribute to field, laboratory and glasshouse-based research activities, provide technical advice to industry, and support biosecurity preparedness and emergency plant pest and disease responses.
We are seeking a motivated qualified with knowledge and experience in plant disease diagnostics, plant pathology research, and disease management. The successful applicant will have experience in plant disease surveillance, sample collection, laboratory diagnostics, pathogen identification, and the application of conventional and molecular diagnostic techniques.
Experience working in tropical or remote environments and collaborating with industry, researchers and government agencies will be highly regarded.
The primary location for this position is Katherine. The role involves regular travel to regional and remote locations across the Northern Territory and may require work outside normal business hours to support emergency plant pest and disease responses. Therefore, the successful applicant must hold a current driver's licence and be able to drive a manual vehicle or hold the equivalent of a Northern Territory Class C driver's licence.
