Lester Blades - Executive Search & Board Advisory

Perth

The Organisation:

WestCycle is Western Australia's peak body for bike riding and the representative body for eRideables, providing a strong and unified voice for riders across the State. An independent, incorporated not-for-profit organisation, WestCycle's vision is “WA – an amazing place to ride”, supported by its purpose of “Making riding secure, easy and attractive for all.” It works across government, industry and the community to advocate for safer riding, better infrastructure and policy settings and increased participation.

WestCycle's 2026–28 Strategic Plan is centred on four pillars: creating great places to ride, sharing the experience, being the leading voice for riders and building strong organisational foundations. Through advocacy, education, events, community engagement, membership and strategic partnerships, WestCycle seeks to unlock the social, health, environmental and economic benefits of riding and make it an attractive and practical choice for people of all ages and abilities.

The Position:

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will provide the visionary and contemporary leadership required to increase WestCycle's influence, profile and impact and translate its ambitious strategy into measurable outcomes.

As WestCycle's principal advocate and public spokesperson, the CEO will build trusted relationships with government, decision makers, industry, members and the broader community and lead persuasive advocacy capable of influencing policy, infrastructure investment, funding and outcomes for riding across Western Australia.

The CEO will also strengthen WestCycle's long-term sustainability by growing and diversifying revenue, membership and strategic partnerships while maintaining sound financial, governance and risk oversight. Equally important will be building, developing and empowering a high-performing team and ensuring WestCycle has the organisational capability and structure required for its next phase.

This is an opportunity to lead a respected peak body with the platform and ambition to substantially increase its influence and impact across Western Australia.

About You:

You will be an accomplished and influential leader with the strategic capability, judgement and presence to champion an ambitious vision and turn it into results. You will bring:

- Strong influencing, advocacy and stakeholder engagement capability, with the political astuteness to operate credibly with government and senior decision makers.

- Executive presence and compelling communication skills, with the confidence and appetite to be a visible spokesperson for WestCycle.

- Commercial and financial acumen, including the ability to identify revenue, funding and partnership opportunities.

- Demonstrated success building, empowering and developing high-performing teams.

- Experience working effectively with a Board or comparable governance structure,

supported by sound governance and risk understanding.

- Strategic agility, integrity and authenticity, with the ability to navigate complexity and bring diverse stakeholders together.

- Previous cycling, sporting or not-for-profit experience is not essential. Of greater importance will be your leadership achievements, values alignment and genuine connection with WestCycle's purpose. A personal interest in bike riding would be advantageous but is not a prerequisite.
