Based in Hornsby, the company develops its proprietary JAZBITM bioresorbable platform technology and undertakes activities across the full medical-device development lifecycle, including biomaterial research, product design, prototyping, manufacturing development, quality management, regulatory preparation and commercialisation.

About the Position: The Research and Development Manager (Product Development) – Medical and Pharmaceutical Products leads the development of bioresorbable biomaterials and medical-device products from concept through testing, validation and commercialisation readiness.
Reporting to the CTO, the role manages product development projects, coordinates prototyping and technical evaluation, resolves development challenges, and works closely with research, engineering, production, quality and regulatory teams to ensure products meet technical, quality and regulatory requirements.
This position is central to advancing SDIP Innovations' proprietary technology platform and delivering next-generation regenerative medical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate research and product development programs for bioresorbable biomaterials, medical devices and associated healthcare products, from initial concept through development, testing and commercialisation readiness.
Develop and implement R D strategies, project plans, priorities, technical milestones and development targets in accordance with the company's commercial and product objectives.
Manage product development projects and coordinate the activities of engineers, researchers, technical specialists and external development partners to achieve agreed technical outcomes and timelines.
Evaluate research findings, experimental data, prototype performance and testing results to identify opportunities for new products and improvements to existing medical technologies.
Direct the design, development, prototyping, verification and validation of new products, ensuring that technical specifications and intended performance requirements are achieved.
Assess the technical feasibility, benefits, risks, resource requirements, costs and effectiveness of proposed R D and product development initiatives.
Provide technical and strategic advice to senior management regarding product development opportunities, R D priorities, emerging technologies and pathways for commercialisation.
Monitor advances in biomaterials, medical-device technologies, manufacturing methods and relevant scientific disciplines and assess their potential application to the company's product portfolio.
Collaborate with Research, Production,
Quality and Regulatory functions to facilitate the transition of developed products and processes from R D into controlled manufacturing and commercial implementation.
Oversee preparation and maintenance of technical development documentation, including project records, design specifications, test protocols, technical reports, risk assessments and development outcomes.
Identify and resolve technical challenges arising during product development and implement appropriate design, material or process improvements based on scientific and engineering evidence.
Monitor the progress and effectiveness of R D activities against established objectives, budgets, development milestones and commercial priorities, and report outcomes and recommendations to senior management.
Requirements : Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
Postgraduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials, Materials Science and Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
Minimum of 3–5+ years of demonstrated post-graduate R D experience in medical devices, advanced biomaterials, tissue engineering, or pharmaceutical technology translation.
Advanced knowledge of bioresorbable polymers, tissue engineering, hydrogels and implantable medical device development; practical experience with ISO ***** quality systems, FDA 510(k) pathways, ISO ***** biocompatibility testing and design control practices; solid analytical skills with a track record of interpreting complex scientific data and translating innovation into validated medical devices; excellent communication, cross-functional leadership, stakeholder management and project oversight capabilities, including experience managing program budgets and external partnerships.
