Role Title: Registered Nurse – Senior Scrub Practitioner (Ophthalmic) RegisteredNurse Careers Employment Type: Part time (19 hours per week) Shift Pattern: Day Shifts (Operating hours 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) Join a founding team for a new eye surgery hospital opening mid-November!
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – Senior Scrub Practitioner to provide clinical leadership, pass on expertise, and deliver exceptional, patient-centred care across operating theatre, peri-operative, and refractive pathways.
Compensation Employment Type Classification: Part-Time (19 hours per week) Remuneration: $90,000 FTE equivalent + 12% superannuation (remuneration is calculated pro-rata based on part-time hours) Key Responsibilities Surgical Assistance Clinical Care: Provide skilled technical assistance to surgical teams, anticipating needs for instrumentation, equipment, and bespoke items (e.g., lenses).
Sterilisation Traceability: Ensure correct disposal, decontamination, and sterilisation of reusable items with complete, audit-ready documentation and quick turnaround management.
Leadership Coaching: Lead, mentor, and assess competencies for scrub nurses and junior staff.
Assist with formal inductions and foster a strong learning environment.
Quality Auditing: Lead theatre audits, assist with incident investigations, ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols, and drive quality improvement initiatives.
Patient Operational Support: Administer prescribed medications, maintain patient dignity/privacy, assist with theatre schedules/hospital lists, and provide seamless handovers to recovery staff.
Role Prerequisites Education: Bachelor of Nursing.
Registration: Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA .
RegisteredNurse Careers Experience: Demonstrated perioperative experience in Anaesthetics, Scrub/Scout, and/or Recovery (ophthalmic experience highly regarded).
Knowledge: Demonstrated understanding of aseptic techniques, infection prevention principles, and decontamination processes.
Required Knowledge Skills Proven clinical leadership, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills.
High-level analytical ability to proactively resolve potential surgical pathway delays.
Exceptional relationship-building skills with surgeons, patients, and multidisciplinary teams.
Strong emotional self-awareness, composure under pressure, and resilience.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and clinical IT systems.
