Tier 2 AWS Platform Operations Engineer

Melbourne CBD | Hybrid – 2–3 days per week in the office

We're looking for a Tier 2 AWS Platform Operations Engineer to join our team, with a primary focus on advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, remediation, and AWS platform reliability.
n
As a Tier 2 engineer, you'll act as an escalation point for complex incidents, taking ownership of issues from Tier 1 through to resolution while proactively improving platform reliability.
n
Key Responsibilities:
n
n
Take ownership of escalated incidents and perform deep-dive AWS infrastructure and application troubleshooting.
n
Develop automation using CloudFormation, Lambda and CI/CD pipelines to reduce manual intervention.
n
Enhance monitoring and observability using Splunk, Honeycomb and OpenTelemetry.
n
Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA), document findings and implement preventative measures.
n
Collaborate with DevOps, application and security teams to maintain compliance and performance.
n
Mentor Tier 1 engineers on troubleshooting techniques and best practices.
n
AWS Certification – SysOps or higher strongly preferred.
n
Strong Infrastructure as Code experience,



particularly CloudFormation.
n
Proficiency with GitHub, with Bitbucket/Bamboo experience a plus.
n
Hands‐on experience with Splunk, Honeycomb and OpenTelemetry.
n
Ability to troubleshoot under pressure during major incidents and lead technical bridges.
n
n
Desired Experience:
n
n
CloudFormation troubleshooting, including stack failures, drift detection and rollback handling.
n
Strong knowledge of IAM policies, S3 bucket policies and AWS security best practices.
n
Advanced CloudWatch experience, including metrics, alarms, LogGroups and custom dashboards.
n
AWS microservices including ECS Fargate, Lambda and API Gateway.
n
Scripting/programming
experience with Python, Shell or Node.js.
n
Robust networking knowledge covering OSI, VPCs, routing, NAT gateways and DNS.
n
Experience with CloudFront and WAF.
n
n
Nice to Have:
n
n
CloudTrail analysis for security and compliance.
n
VPC Flow Logs troubleshooting and network packet analysis.
n
IAM AssumeRole, STS Tokens, Secrets Manager and SSM automation.
n
AWS performance tuning experience.
n
n
