Job Description
At Verda, we're building a fully featured European AI cloud, covering everything needed to train, experiment with, and deploy AI models at scale.
n
We are a full-stack AI infrastructure company, meaning we design, operate, and optimize the compute powering modern AI workloads across training and inference. Our infrastructure runs on 100% renewable energy, helping build a more sustainable AI ecosystem.
n
Join Verda while it's still being built - not once it's finished.
n
About the role
n
Our Newcastle site runs high-density GPU infrastructure around the clock, and we need a senior technician who can handle the most demanding hardware work on site. This is a hands‐on individual contributor role in our shift team, reporting to the Data Center Operations Manager.
n
You'll be the person the team turns to for the complex jobs: GPU server installs, tricky diagnostics, repairs that others can't crack, and clean, high-quality network cabling at scale. You'll also help less experienced technicians level up by sharing what you know and setting the standard for how work gets done on site.
n
When installations happen or machines break down, the expected pace is "everything done yesterday." Communication here is open and upfront.
n
What You'll Do
n
n
Install, configure, and maintain GPU servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and structured cabling.
n
Diagnose and repair complex hardware faults on enterprise GPU servers, component-level troubleshooting, RMA handling, and root-cause analysis.
n
Perform rack and stack, cabling (copper and fibre), and hardware refresh work to a high quality standard.
n
Monitor data center environmental conditions: temperature, humidity, power,
and respond to alerts during your shifts.
n
Work as part of a shift rotation ensuring 24/7 uptime and availability of the site.
n
Contribute hands‐on to build-outs, migrations, and refresh projects as the site grows.
n
Mentor junior technicians on the shift team and help maintain consistent work quality across shifts.
n
Collaborate with network engineers, system administrators, and the Data Center Operations Manager.
n
n
What We're Looking For
n
n
3-5+ years of progressive data center or IT infrastructure experience, with significant hands‐on hardware time.
n
Direct hands‐on experience with enterprise GPU servers (NVIDIA Ampere, Hopper, or Blackwell generations).
n
Robust diagnostic skills, you can isolate faults across compute, network, and cabling without a script to follow.
n
Ability and willingness to work shift-based rotation on site in Newcastle.
n
Existing right to work in the UK (we cannot sponsor visas for this position at this time).
n
Relevant qualification (e.g., apprenticeship, BTEC/HND, or degree in IT/Computer Engineering) or equivalent hands‐on experience.
n
n
Nice to Have
n
n
Experience with liquid cooling: DLC loops and maintenance of liquid cooling solutions.
n
Experience with large cluster deployments or data hall build‐outs as a hands‐on technician.
n
Experience mentoring junior technicians.
n
n
Practicalities
n
n
Work mode: Onsite in Newcastle, UK
n
Employment type: Full-time and permanent
n
Working pattern: Shift-based rotation covering 24/7 operations, with shift allowances
n
Please note: we are currently unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role. Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK.
