Job Description
Take the desk that's furthest along — AU is live, with AloomU as the sovereign backstop — and scale the market. For a NEM trader who priced 5-minute settlement and FCAS and knows what a price-cap event does to a portfolio.
n
Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane · Remote-first. The book: NEM dispatch — 5-minute settlement, FCAS, and the firm/spot spread across five regions.
n
About sovrgn
n
sovrgn is the sovereign Plan B for AI. Intelligence has become a metered, dispatched, globally-shippable commodity — a second energy market stacked on the first. We run it like one: ask for a capability, not a vendor, and sovrgn resolves the provider under your jurisdiction's law, with automatic failover and fail-closed residency.
n
It clears on merit order. It splits into firm and interruptible. It has a day-ahead price and a real-time one, and it prices by where the work lands. If that sentence reads like home, keep going — you already speak this market.
n
Australia's instance is live; the AloomU cluster is its sovereign-silicon backstop. The other national instances open next, and each one needs someone to run it.
n
The book you ran
n
The NEM: five regional reference prices, 5-minute settlement, FCAS markets, and price caps that can swing a portfolio in a single interval. You've managed a cap-and-collar position and watched a spike that paid for the quarter — or the one that didn't.
n
5-minute settlement, merit-order dispatch, and firm vs interruptible capacity are exactly how a sovrgn instance routes inference: firm reserved ahead, spot cleared on a ~5-minute cadence across regional prices, cheapest capacity first. You won't be retraining — you'll be running a market you already know against a recent commodity.
n
What you'll do
n
n
Take Australia's live instance and scale it — it's the furthest along, with AloomU as the in-jurisdiction sovereign-silicon backstop.
n
Own the buy side: grow demand across Australian business, government, and critical infrastructure.
n
Own the sell side: bring more in-jurisdiction capacity onto the market — sovereign silicon, spare GPU, firm and floating.
n
Run the market itself: firm vs floating pricing, failover chains, and the residency rules that keep AU data onshore.
n
Be the face of sovrgn in Australia — AEMO-adjacent bodies, insurers, and the regulators shaping AI-continuity rules.
n
n
What we're looking for
n
n
You have personally carried a NEM power or gas book — a trading desk, a gentailer, a retailer, an aggregator/VPP, or a large industrial load.
n
Fluent in the NEM: 5-minute dispatch and settlement, FCAS, regional pricing, price caps/floors, and the cap-and-collar hedge market.
n
You settle debates with numbers. Merit order, regional basis, and the cost of certainty are second nature.
n
Commercial range: you can talk to a CIO, a developer, and a regulator in the same week.
n
AI-native or AI-curious. You don't need to write the router — you need to understand the market it runs.
n
AU-based. Bonus if you already know the AloomU / sovereign-compute story.
n
n
Bonus points
n
n
Origination/structuring — PPAs, offtake, firming deals.
n
VPP, DER-aggregation, or grid-operations (AEMO) background.
n
You've built a desk or a book from scratch, not just inherited one.
n
n
Why this desk
n
n
First in seat for your market. You're not inheriting a playbook — you're writing it, the way you always wished your old desk had let you.
n
A market you already understand, against a new commodity. The mechanics are the ones you traded: merit order, firm vs interruptible, day-ahead/real-time, locational pricing. We just changed what's being dispatched.
n
Direct line to the founders. Decisions get made in hours, not weeks.
n
Equity for the right person.
