About Youth Off The Streets:

Youth Off The Streets is a not‑for‑profit organisation that provides safety, support and opportunities for young people to build a positive future. Our services include alternative high school education, crisis accommodation and housing support, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice programs, life skills and employment pathways, cultural support and community engagement.

The Role:
We are seeking a School Counsellor to join our school in Maitland, NSW, working 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Fridays).

This is a rewarding opportunity to support students and their families through the provision of counselling and wellbeing services within a school environment. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will help young people overcome personal, social and emotional barriers to learning and support positive educational and life outcomes.

What you'll do:

- Provide therapeutic counselling and wellbeing support to students and their families

- Conduct assessments, develop intervention plans and maintain accurate case notes

- Support students experiencing trauma, mental health challenges, behavioural concerns and complex family circumstances

- Conduct psychometric assessments and prepare reports where required

- Collaborate with families, school staff and external services to support student wellbeing

- Facilitate individual and group-based interventions using evidence-based approaches

- Provide advice and support to school staff regarding student wellbeing needs

- Promote child safety and comply with mandatory reporting and child protection requirements

What you'll bring:





- Bachelor's degree in Counselling or a related discipline (minimum AQF Level 7)

- Minimum 3 years' experience providing counselling services to young people, preferably within a school, education or community services setting

- Experience supporting young people experiencing trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety and other complex mental health challenges

- Knowledge of therapeutic approaches such as CBT, Solution Focused Therapy, harm minimisation and group work

- Experience conducting and interpreting psychometric assessments

- Demonstrated understanding of adolescent development, child protection and family and domestic violence issues

- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

- Commitment to culturally safe and inclusive practice

- Professional membership with ACA, PACFA or another recognised counselling association

- Current NSW Working With Children Check, Driver Licence and full Australian working rights

Desirable:

- Experience working within a school or educational setting

- Experience supporting young people with learning difficulties, disability, Out of Home Care experiences and complex support needs

- Knowledge of NCCD requirements and processes
