Role Description The Banking Loan Consultant will assist customers in understanding and selecting suitable lending products based on their financial needs, objectives, and eligibility. The role focuses on customer consultation, loan product guidance, application support, documentation review, and maintaining compliance with established banking and lending procedures.
Key responsibilities include communicating with prospective and existing customers to understand their financing requirements, explaining available loan products, and providing clear information about applicable terms, interest rates, repayment structures, fees, eligibility criteria, and documentation requirements.
The position will support customers throughout the loan application process by collecting required information, reviewing submitted documents, checking application completeness, and coordinating with relevant banking, credit, underwriting, and operations teams.
The Banking Loan Consultant will conduct preliminary assessments of customer information according to established lending policies and procedures. Responsibilities may include reviewing income information, employment details, financial obligations, credit information, collateral documentation, and other relevant factors before applications are submitted for formal assessment.
Additional responsibilities include following up on applications, communicating application updates, responding to customer enquiries, coordinating additional documentation, and helping resolve routine application issues. The role may also maintain accurate customer records and update loan application information within approved banking systems.
The position will support business development activities by identifying suitable lending opportunities, maintaining customer relationships, responding to enquiries, and following up with potential customers.
The role may assist with promotional campaigns, customer outreach, referrals, and relationship-management initiatives.
The successful candidate should be customer-focused, financially literate, organized, detail-oriented, and capable of explaining financial products clearly. Strong communication, analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills are essential.
All customer interactions and application activities should be conducted professionally and in accordance with applicable banking regulations, responsible lending principles, internal policies, confidentiality requirements, and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Finance, Banking, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of banking products, lending processes, loan applications, credit principles, and financial services.
- Familiarity with personal loans, business loans, mortgages, secured and unsecured lending products, or other relevant credit facilities.
- Ability to explain loan terms, interest rates, repayment structures, fees, eligibility requirements, and application procedures clearly.
- Understanding of basic credit assessment concepts, including income verification, debt obligations, affordability, credit history, and risk indicators.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with the ability to review financial information accurately.
- Ability to collect, review, organize,
and validate customer documentation and application information.
- Strong attention to detail when reviewing financial records, identification documents, application forms, and supporting documentation.
- Familiarity with banking systems, loan origination platforms, CRM systems, credit assessment tools, and document-management systems.
- Strong customer service and relationship-management skills with a professional and consultative approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to customers with different levels of financial knowledge.
- Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills with the ability to understand customer needs and provide appropriate solutions.
- Ability to manage multiple customer applications, enquiries, follow-ups, and administrative tasks efficiently.
- Understanding of responsible lending, customer protection, data privacy, confidentiality, AML/KYC requirements, and relevant banking compliance principles.
- Ability to identify incomplete, inconsistent, or potentially inaccurate application information and escalate issues appropriately.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to meet application and customer-service deadlines.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with credit analysts, underwriters, relationship managers, compliance teams, operations staff, and other banking professionals.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or equivalent business tools.
- Professional banking, finance, credit, or lending certifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, confidentiality, and customer focus.
- Proactive and results-oriented approach with a solid commitment to responsible lending, customer satisfaction, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
