We are seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to join our team in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. This is a full time position working 38 hours per week.
Salary: $80,000 per annum plus superannuation
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Prepare, season and cook a variety of Japanese dishes using appropriate cooking techniques and recipes.
- Prepare sushi, ramen, udon, tempura, curry, gyoza and other menu items.
- Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before preparation and cooking.
- Monitor the quality, taste, portion size and presentation of meals before they are served.
- Plan and review menu items in consultation with management and assist with the development of new or seasonal dishes.
- Estimate food and ingredient requirements based on expected customer demand and menu requirements.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering food, ingredients and kitchen supplies.
- Ensure ingredients are appropriately stored, labelled and rotated and take appropriate steps to minimise food wastage.
- Organise food preparation and coordinate cooking activities to ensure meals are prepared efficiently during service periods.
- Maintain food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness standards.
- Provide instructions and guidance to kitchen staff regarding food preparation, cooking methods, portioning and presentation.
- Liaise with management regarding menu planning, ingredient requirements, food costs and general kitchen operations.
Qualifications and experience:
- Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery or a related field.
- Relevant experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen.
- Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Ability to organise kitchen workflow and work effectively in a busy commercial kitchen environment.
- Ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation standards.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
