Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint their first and only Legal Counsel/Claims Manager within the brokerage.
The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for a 2–5 PAE lawyer with insurance-related experience to move into an in-house environment and take ownership of the legal function within a successful insurance brokerage.
You'll work closely with senior leadership, brokers and major corporate clients, providing legal advice across a range of complex insurance and claims matters.
Importantly, this is not a high-volume claims role. You'll have genuine ownership of the legal function and the opportunity to become a key advisor to the business.
The current claims portfolio consists of approximately 132 open claims, including:
- Motor claims, including plant and equipment
- Liability
- Contract works
- Property damage
- Travel and other miscellaneous claims
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice across the brokerage's insurance and claims portfolio
- Manage and advise on complex claims and disputes
- Liaise with insurers, clients, solicitors, loss adjusters and other external stakeholders
- Review and advise on contractual and insurance-related matters
- Assist brokers and senior management with legal and risk-related issues
- Manage external legal providers where required
- Develop and establish the brokerage's internal legal function
About You The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience within insurance law, insurance disputes or defendant litigation
- Experience working within a defendant insurance law firm will be highly regarded
- Strong understanding of insurance claims and disputes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- The ability to work autonomously and provide commercially focused legal advice
- An interest in moving into an in-house Legal Counsel position
