Permanent Assistant Accountant Role, Small Finance Team with the Opportunity to Learn, Central Sydney, Hybrid Your new company
An established and growing fintech business is seeking an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join its small but team-oriented finance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants more than a traditional transactional accounting role. You'll gain exposure across the month-end process, overseeing trust accounts, business performance, while still remaining hands-on with accounts payable and payroll. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, challenge existing processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency across the finance function.
Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for:

- End-to-end accounts payable processing on MYOB
- Payroll preparation and processing using Xero
- General ledger journals and supporting month-end accounting activities
- Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- Preparing work papers and reconciliations
- Identifying opportunities for process improvements and automation
- Providing ad hoc finance and operational support as required

What you'll need to succeed





- Experience as an Assistant Accountant or Accounts Officer experience, ideally in a transferable industry
- Strong accounts payable experience and understanding of MYOB
- Payroll experience using Xero is ideal
- Experience preparing journals and reconciliations
- Solid accounting fundamentals
- Strong Excel skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- A proactive mindset with a genuine interest in process improvement
- A positive attitude and desire to build a long-term career within a growing business
