This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organised, community-focused professional to play a key role in the day-to-day operation, administration and activation of George Town’s arts, cultural and community facilities. The role has a strong focus on coordinating facility bookings, scheduling, customer enquiries, access arrangements and associated administrative processes. Working closely with the Team Leader – Community and the broader Council team, you will coordinate venue bookings, support local artists and community organisations, and contribute to the delivery of engaging arts, cultural and community programs and exhibitions that enhance participation, creativity, cultural vibrancy and community wellbeing.

About the Role and You
As Community Officer – Venues, Arts & Culture, you will play a key role in the day-to-day administration and activation of Council-owned arts, cultural and community facilities, with a strong focus on delivering an productive, customer-focused venue use service. You will coordinate facility bookings, including enquiries, scheduling, hirer requirements, access arrangements, records and associated administrative processes, ensuring Council facilities are well utilised, accessible and responsive to community needs.
You will coordinate facility operations, including venue inspections, room and resource allocation, access and presentation requirements, identification and reporting of maintenance needs, and the resolution of operational and booking issues. You will support the effective management of facility budgets, revenue and expenditure, contribute to asset planning and lifecycle management, and ensure facilities operate in accordance with relevant workplace health and safety requirements, policies and procedures.
A key focus of the role will also be developing and delivering arts and cultural programs, exhibitions, and public art initiatives. You will support local artists,
creative organisations and community groups, contribute to Council’s Arts and Culture Strategy, and assist with the management and activation of cultural collections and heritage assets where applicable.
You will build strong relationships with community organisations, artists, young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members, hirers and other stakeholders, providing responsive and professional customer service and ensuring programs and facilities are inclusive, accessible and responsive to community needs. You will also identify funding opportunities and administer community arts funding programs, while contributing to project evaluation and performance reporting.
You are a highly organised, proactive and community-focused professional with a genuine passion for arts, culture and community development. You bring demonstrated experience in facility bookings, venue or operational administration, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment. You will have strong computer and digital administration skills.
Your strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills will enable you to deliver high-quality venue services and engaging community programs that make a positive contribution to George Town.
To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Qualifications in Arts, Cultural Development, Community Development, Event Management, Facility Management or a related discipline, or relevant equivalent experience.
- Experience managing community or cultural facilities and coordinating their effective use and activation.
- Experience developing and delivering arts, cultural or community programs, events or projects.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of community members and organisations.
- Demonstrated project management and budget management experience.
- Strong report writing, grant writing and general administrative skills.
- A proactive, organised and collaborative approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes.
- Experience in local government, knowledge of public art and cultural planning, heritage or performing arts facility experience, and experience supervising staff or volunteers will be highly regarded.
Selection Criteria
1. Relevant qualifications in Arts, Cultural Development, Community Development, Event Management, Facility Management, Business Administration or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent skills and experience.
2. Demonstrated experience coordinating facility bookings and venue operations, including enquiries, scheduling, hirer requirements, access arrangements, customer service and associated administrative processes.
3. Highly developed administrative, organisational and computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency with booking or facility management systems with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
4. Demonstrated experience developing and delivering arts, cultural or community programs, exhibitions, events or initiatives, including the ability to coordinate multiple activities and achieve outcomes within agreed timeframes and resources.
5. Strong communication, customer service and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with hirers, community groups, artists, organisations, contractors, Council staff and other stakeholders.
6. Well-developed written communication skills with the ability to prepare clear, accurate and timely reports, briefs, funding applications, correspondence and other documentation.
