The opportunity
This is a chance to own growth for a consultancy on the edge of its next major phase of expansion. You would be our first Director of Growth. Not inheriting a function, building one. Pipeline, positioning, process, and, in time, a team, with a path to Chief Revenue Officer.
What we do
Comet designs, builds and governs the technology behind the customer experience. Data architecture and warehousing, cloud platforms, commerce, integrations, applications, and increasingly, our own AI operations builds. We sit between the specialist implementation firms and the global consultancies, and we deliberately take the best of both: the strategic depth and governance you would expect from a large consultancy, with the technical range and pace of a specialist team.
Our clients are ambitious Australian brands with genuinely complex customer and data ecosystems. Our buyers are CIOs, CTOs, CMOs and Heads of Digital who already know their systems are holding them back and have the authority to do something about it.
We are growing, and we are moving quickly into higher-value strategic and AI-powered work. That transition is where you come in.
What you would own
- The revenue number, end-to-end.
- New client acquisition. This is the heart of the role.
- Growth within our existing accounts and the health of our retainer relationships.
- Taking our AI operations and transformation work to market. You will help shape the offer, not simply sell what already exists.
- Building the growth function properly, from first principles.
What this role really is
Here is what is already on the table. An established client base of Australian brands who trust us,
several of whom are buying considerably less from us than the problems they have would justify. There is real, identifiable expansion sitting in accounts we already hold, and some of it is one conversation away.
Live partnerships with major technology providers who bring us into deals, refer work and co-sell alongside us. They are underworked. Anyone who knows how to run a partner channel properly would find revenue there inside the first quarter.
The founder's relationships, handed over properly rather than held onto. He has been carrying sales alongside running the company and wants them somewhere better than his own inbox.
What there is not is a demand generation engine. For the first stretch, you will prospect, write and run your own deals. Budget exists for events, hosting, dinners and getting yourself in front of the right people, and we will back a well-made case for spending it. What nobody will do is fill your calendar for you.
That should read as a licence rather than a limitation. You own the number. Not a share of it, not influence over it. The number. How you get there is your call: partners, network, events, referrals, cold outreach, whatever actually works. We will not tell you how to sell. We will ask you where it stands, expect a straight answer, and move quickly on anything you need.
Momentum matters from the first quarter, not the third. Partner and existing-account opportunities should be moving early while your new logo pipeline matures behind them. There is a ramp in your commission plan while that builds. It is there to be beaten.
What you get back is autonomy that is close to absolute, direct access to every decision in the business, and the chance to build a revenue function exactly as you believe it should be built.
What you bring
- You have personally originated and closed substantial services engagements, in the low hundreds of thousands and up. Originated, not inherited.
- You have sold to senior technology and marketing leaders in the Australian mid-market or enterprise.
- You have done it somewhere that relied on you rather than on a marketing machine.
- You know how to make a partner or vendor channel produce, and have closed work that came through one.
- You can sell roadmaps and outcomes, not licences or resources.
Valuable but not essential: a background in data platforms, cloud, systems integration or consultancy. An established network among our kind of clients. We are genuinely open on background. Where you have sold matters far less to us than whether you have built a pipeline from nothing and closed complex work on your own credibility.
Remuneration
$350,000 OTE. Uncapped. That is a $200,000 base + super, and $150,000 variable at plan. A robust year puts you north of $400,000.
Getting in touch
A CV is fine. Better still, tell us about a client you won that nobody handed to you, and how you did it.
