Play a key role in delivering WA's green energy transition.

The Opportunity:

The Green Energy Directorate is seeking an experienced Environmental Officer to support the assessment and approval of major green energy developments across Western Australia. This permanent opportunity offers the chance to contribute to the State's transition to a sustainable, low-carbon future through the delivery of robust environmental advice and regulatory outcomes.

In this role, you will assess complex proposals, provide scientific and technical advice, and support informed environmental decision-making for projects that meet categories within the Green Energy Approvals Initiative. Working closely with industry, government agencies and other stakeholders, you will contribute to innovative assessment approaches and streamlined approval pathways for projects spanning renewable energy, hydrogen industries, critical minerals and green manufacturing.

What You'll Do

- Evaluate the environmental impacts of Green Energy projects relating to Part IV, and/or Part V (Division 2 or Division 3) of the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
- Provide trusted scientific and technical advice to support environmental approvals and policy development.
- Work closely with industry, government and community stakeholders to achieve balanced environmental outcomes.




- Contribute to cutting-edge approaches that streamline environmental assessment processes for green energy projects.
- Research emerging environmental issues and help shape strategies that support WA's transition to a low-carbon future.
- Build and share expertise within the Department, fostering continuous learning and improvement.

About You To be successful, you will have:

- A Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science* or a related discipline, or an approved equivalent qualification.
- Experience conducting environmental assessments and applying legislative and regulatory frameworks.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess risks and provide practical, evidence-based advice.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
- A collaborative approach and proven ability to build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
