About the role
We are seeking an organised and technically capable Estimating & Fabrication Project Coordinator to assist with estimating, review client drawings, coordinate fabrication drawings, prepare workshop job packs, manage RFIs and maintain project document control. This is a technical coordination role positioned between our estimating team, internal design team, the client's design team, project management and workshop personnel. This is not a design engineering position.
The successful applicant will not be responsible for completing, approving or certifying engineering design. They will coordinate design information, identify missing or conflicting details and ensure all technical queries are directed to and resolved by the appropriate design qualified.
Key responsibilities
- Review tender drawings, specifications, schedules and scope documentation.
- Complete material and quantity take-offs from client-issued drawings.
- Assist with the preparation of fabrication, supply and installation estimates.
- Obtain and compare quotations from steel suppliers, subcontractors, coating providers and other vendors.
- Assist in determining material quantities, fabrication hours, workshop requirements, transport, installation and other project costs.
- Prepare clear tender assumptions, inclusions, exclusions and qualifications.
- Identify missing information, scope gaps, constructability concerns and commercial risks during the estimating process.
- Prepare tender RFIs and coordinate responses with the client and relevant design teams.
- Review client drawings, specifications and project documentation to understand the required scope of work.
- Work closely with RAAMS' internal design team and the client's design team to coordinate technical information.
About you
- Strong ability to read and interpret structural and fabrication drawings.
- Experience completing material and quantity take-offs.
- A practical understanding of steel fabrication processes and costs.
- A good understanding of drawing revisions, approval statuses and document control.
- The ability to identify discrepancies and raise clear, technically relevant RFIs.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to estimating and documentation.
- Confidence communicating with clients, design teams, suppliers and workshop personnel.
- The ability to manage multiple tenders and live projects with competing deadlines.
- Competence with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and PDF drawing review software.
- A relevant qualification in estimating, engineering, drafting, construction, fabrication or project management would be highly regarded. Relevant industry experience may be accepted in place of formal qualifications.
