Finance Manager
At Geosurv, we're recognised as a leader in integrated Surveying, Spatial & Digital Engineering and Utility Solutions. We work on some of New South Wales' largest infrastructure, transport and utility projects, delivering surveying, utility locating and mapping, non-destructive digging, asset investigations, pipeline maintenance and geospatial services.
We're looking for an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of the financial and commercial performance of our growing Utilities Network.
This is not a traditional accounting role.
We are looking for someone who wants to understand what is happening operationally behind the numbers — why a project is performing well or poorly, where margin is being lost, whether labour and plant are being utilised effectively, where commercial risks are emerging and what operational leaders can do about it.
You will work directly with the new General Manager and operational leaders, providing the financial insight, commercial challenge and support they need to make better business decisions.
The Chance
Reporting directly to the General Manager – Utilities Network, you will be the key finance partner for the division and take ownership of its financial performance.
You will work closely with Project Managers and operational leaders to understand project performance, challenge results and forecasts, identify commercial risks and opportunities, and improve profitability across the network.
This is a hands-on role. While you will oversee the core financial activities of the division, your value will come from turning financial and operational information into meaningful actions and better commercial outcomes.
What You Will Be Responsible For:
As the Finance Manager you will:
- Partnering directly with the General Manager, Project Managers and operational leaders on financial and commercial performance
- Owning the budgeting and forecasting process for the Utilities Network
- Analysing project profitability and identifying the operational drivers behind margin performance
- Monitoring and challenging WIP, job costing, labour recovery, utilisation and project performance
- Identifying underperforming projects and working with operational leaders to develop corrective actions
- Reviewing pricing, contracts and commercial terms to identify risks and opportunities
- Developing financial models and scenario analysis to support operational and investment decisions
- Delivering weekly and monthly reporting that provides meaningful insight — not simply reporting historical results
- Improving visibility over plant, equipment and workforce utilisation
- Supporting Project Managers to improve their commercial and financial capability
- Maintaining oversight of AP, AR, payroll and divisional month-end requirements
- Working with the broader Finance function to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
- Improving financial processes, controls and reporting across the Utilities Network
- Developing dashboards and management reporting, including Power BI
About You We are looking for a commercially minded finance professional who is comfortable working closely with operational people and challenging the business when required.
You will ideally have
- Finance Business Partnering, Commercial or Management Accounting experience within construction, engineering,
infrastructure, utilities or a similar project-based environment
- Strong practical knowledge of project accounting, WIP, job costing, project margins and revenue recognition
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and variance analysis
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to analyse performance, identify underlying operational drivers and turn financial information into action
- Confidence partnering with and constructively challenging senior operational leaders and Project Managers
- Advanced Excel skills, with experience using accounting/project systems; Power BI experience highly regarded
- CA/CPA qualification and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
Most importantly, you'll be someone who is naturally curious about why the numbers look the way they do and comfortable getting into the operational detail to find the answer. Why Join Geosurv?
At Geosurv, you will join a business that is growing rapidly and investing heavily in its people, technology and future.
We offer
- Opportunity to partner directly with senior leadership and influence business decisions
- Diverse and interesting project environment
- Career development and progression opportunities
- Supportive, collaborative and high-performing team culture
- Exposure to some of NSW's most significant infrastructure and utility projects
- Modern office located in Kogarah with easy access to public transport
Ready to Make an Impact? If you are looking for a role where you can move beyond reporting the numbers and instead help shape the commercial success of a growing business, we would love to hear from you.
Apply now with your resume and a brief cover letter outlining your experience and what attracts you to this opportunity.
