About the Firearm Instructor role
We are seeking a safety-focused Firearm Instructor to deliver the 11029NAT Course in Firearms and Weapons Safety (approved for firearm licensing in Queensland). This role is ideal for individuals with extensive firearms experience, whether gained through policing, military, security, or active participation in a shooting club. While prior experience as a firearms instructor is beneficial, it is not essential. However, strong firearm safety knowledge, experience supporting and coaching new shooters, and conducting range practices are required.
As a Firearm Instructor, you will work with students of varied experience levels, the majority of whom are handling firearms for the first time. You must be able to:
- Deliver clear, accurate, and engaging instruction.
- Reinforce safe handling practices.
- Promote the legal and ethical use of firearms.
- Adapt your teaching approach to support different learning styles and abilities.
This is an independent role with limited supervision, requiring strong organisation, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage training sessions effectively. Most firearm safety courses are scheduled during evenings and weekends, with variable frequency based on demand, so flexibility is required.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about firearm safety, enjoys mentoring new shooters, and wants to contribute to the responsible training of future firearm owners.
Note:
1. The successful applicant(s) will be required to obtain a QLD Firearm Licence (Instructor) before conducting training. Asset College will provide the required authorisation letter to support this application.
2. In accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Asset College’s Firearm Instructors are required to undergo health monitoring including blood lead testing at least every 6 months and audiometric (hearing) testing at least every 2 years.

Essential Criteria

- Current Queensland Firearms Licence (Category A, B, and H).
