Talent Scout Consulting is partnering with a successful Australian-owned business operating across the mining, civil construction, quarrying and heavy equipment sectors to recruit an experienced Financial Accountant for their Mackay-based finance team.

This is a broad, hands-on accounting role offering exposure across month-end, management accounting, banking, AP/AR, payroll accounting, intercompany transactions, fixed assets and CAPEX within a complex, multi-entity business.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant, you'll play an important role in maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the Group's financial information while working closely with Finance, Commercial and operational teams.

This isn't a narrowly focused accounting position. You'll gain exposure across multiple entities and operating businesses, with responsibilities including:

- Completing month-end accounting activities, journals, accruals and reconciliations
- Preparing bank, credit card, general ledger, GST, loan and intercompany reconciliations
- Reviewing P&L; and job-cost accounts and investigating discrepancies or unusual movements
- Coordinating AP and AR close activities,



including accruals and revenue reconciliations
- Raising customer invoices from approved claims and billing documentation
- Processing and reconciling payroll-related accounting entries
- Managing intercompany invoices, loan clearings, job-cost recharges and internal allocations
- Maintaining the fixed asset register, including additions, depreciation, transfers and disposals
- Processing and reconciling CAPEX expenditure against approved budgets
- Maintaining accounting records relating to leases, hire-purchase arrangements and equipment finance
- Preparing schedules and supporting information for management reporting, BAS, tax, statutory reporting and audit
- Working closely with Finance, Commercial, Maintenance, Procurement and project teams
- Identifying opportunities to improve, standardise and automate finance processes

About You You'll ideally be an accountant who enjoys getting into the detail, investigating why numbers don't reconcile and working with different areas of the business to resolve issues.

You will bring

- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline
- Experience in month-end close, journals, accruals and balance-sheet reconciliations




- Good working knowledge of AP, AR and payroll accounting
- Exposure to fixed assets and CAPEX accounting
- Strong Excel skills
- Experience working with an ERP or finance system
- Strong reconciliation and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach
- Confidence communicating with finance, commercial and operational stakeholders

CA or CPA qualification, or progress towards completion, will be highly regarded. Experience within mining, civil construction, contracting, quarrying, engineering, heavy equipment or another asset-intensive setting would be advantageous but isn't essential.

Experience with Vista or a similar project-accounting ERP would also be beneficial.
