This opportunity is with a Defence Consultancy supporting the Department of Defence's Capability Development Division (CDD), which leads capability development activities across Defence. Defence is seeking a senior financial management specialist to provide strategic business and financial advice, ensuring effective financial governance, budget management and decision support across the division.
Your new role
As the Strategic Business & Financial Advisor, you will operate as a senior subject matter expert providing strategic financial leadership and advisory services across a complex Defence environment. The role is heavily focused on financial governance, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and stakeholder engagement.
Key responsibilities will include
- Providing strategic business and financial advice to senior Defence stakeholders.
- Leading budget planning, forecasting and financial management activities.
- Establishing and maintaining financial controls and governance frameworks.
- Preparing management reports, dashboards and executive financial briefings.
- Supporting Senate Estimates, Annual Reports and external reporting requirements.
- Delivering financial analysis, costing advice and assurance services.
- Monitoring expenditure and ensuring compliance with Defence and Commonwealth financial frameworks.
- Responding to audit requirements and coordinating financial governance activities.
- Building effective stakeholder relationships and influencing financial decision-making.
- Developing and improving financial management processes and standard operating procedures.
What you'll need to succeed To be successful, you will bring significant experience providing senior financial management and advisory services within Defence or the Commonwealth Government workplace.
You will ideally possess
- Extensive experience in financial governance, budgeting, forecasting and reporting.
- Strong understanding of Commonwealth financial frameworks and government decision-making processes.
- Experience providing strategic financial advice to executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and manage complex stakeholder environments.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Business or a related discipline.
- Master's qualification in a relevant field.
- FCPA, CPA, CA or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Experience using ERP systems, IBRS and CapabilityOne.
- Current Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) security clearance.
- A proven track record delivering senior financial advisory services within Defence or Federal Government environments
