Mallee District Aboriginal Services (MDAS) is a proud Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) committed to healing, supporting, serving and protecting Aboriginal communities across the Mallee region. Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced, values-driven General Manager Family and Community Services who will champion a culture of quality, safety and continuous improvement, ensuring best practice is embedded across all our family and community service programs.
This position is responsible for the operational leadership, supervision and performance of the Family and Community Services management team and workforce, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation and culturally secure practice while delivering exceptional outcomes for our community.
The General Manager Family and Community Services will report to Executive General Manager Family and Community Services and is a key member of the management team at MDAS.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Executive General Manager FCS with implementation of the strategic and operational plans, reporting monthly progress to the Executive General Manager of FCS.
- Lead where appropriate and actively participate in networks and forums to align Family and Community programs and service delivery with relevant initiatives and government priorities.
- Assist the Executive General Manager FCS to review key risk information, identifying key risk trends and assessing the impact for the overall organisation.
- Lead and actively participate in service planning activities to ensure programs are developed and delivered in line with identified community needs and organisational goals and objectives.
- Foster and maintain strong partnerships with Aboriginal communities, government agencies, funding bodies, health providers and key stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.
- Champion Aboriginal community control, cultural safety and self-determination while promoting a values-driven culture aligned with MDAS' LORE, purpose and strategic objectives.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the impacts of colonisation and the social determinants affecting Aboriginal people and communities, particularly within the Mallee region,
with a commitment to culturally safe and inclusive service delivery.
- Extensive senior management and leadership experience within the Aboriginal Community Controlled, health and/or community services sector, including the provision of high-level strategic advice, organisational leadership and service delivery oversight.
- Strong financial, business and political acumen, with demonstrated ability to interpret and manage budgets, oversee organisational performance and contribute to sustainable service growth and development.
- Sound knowledge of state and federal community service funding environments, government programs, contracts and shared responsibility agreements, with experience ensuring compliance and achieving funding outcomes.
- Proven ability to establish, lead and maintain effective partnerships and networks across Aboriginal communities, government agencies, health providers, funding bodies and other key stakeholders.
- Highly developed communication, relationship management, negotiation and conflict resolution skills, supported by Tertiary qualifications in Management, Community Services or a related field.
