Drive membership growth, build strategic partnerships and create new commercial opportunities
MGA Independent Businesses Australia is the national employer association supporting more than 2,000 independent businesses across Australia.
We’re looking for a commercially minded Growth & Partnerships Manager to drive membership growth, strengthen member retention, grow our corporate partnership portfolio and identify new revenue opportunities.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll own MGA’s membership and commercial development pipeline – identifying opportunities, building relationships, developing proposals and converting prospects into sustainable membership and commercial revenue.
This is an externally focused role for someone who enjoys getting out into the industry, building relationships and turning opportunities into results. You’ll be supported by business administration resources, allowing you to focus on growth, conversion and strategic relationships.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Drive membership growth – build and manage a strong pipeline of prospective and lapsed members, from initial identification and engagement through to presentation, negotiation and conversion.
- Strengthen member retention – build relationships with key members and banner groups, identify retention risks and opportunities, and help increase engagement with MGA’s services and benefits.
- Grow corporate partnerships – identify and develop new partnership opportunities, prepare proposals and commercial packages, negotiate opportunities and lead the renewal and growth of existing partnerships.
- Develop strategic relationships – build strong connections with industry leaders, suppliers, banner groups, associations and other key stakeholders that can support MGA’s growth and industry influence.
- Identify new commercial opportunities – explore opportunities to generate revenue through new services, consulting, education, training and other initiatives, and help bring approved opportunities to market.
- Own the pipeline and results – maintain strong CRM discipline, monitor pipeline activity and conversion, forecast membership and partnership revenue, and report against agreed growth targets.
You’ll work closely with our Operations, Marketing & Communications, HR Advisory and Legal teams to develop campaigns, identify opportunities and strengthen the overall value MGA delivers to members and industry partners.
About you
You’re a commercially minded business development professional with a demonstrated track record of generating opportunities, building pipelines and converting them into measurable growth and revenue.
You’re equally comfortable developing a new relationship, presenting a proposal, negotiating an opportunity and maintaining the discipline required to manage a sales pipeline and deliver against targets.
You’ll bring
- Demonstrated success generating and converting new business, membership or corporate partnership opportunities.
- Experience achieving or exceeding measurable growth and revenue targets.
- Strong end-to-end business development and sales pipeline management experience.
- Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Solid commercial judgement and the ability to identify and prioritise opportunities.
- Highly developed presentation, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Strong planning, organisation and time management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience in a membership association, employer association or not-for-profit environment would be advantageous, as would experience developing corporate partnerships, selling professional services or working within the independent retail sector. Why join MGA?
You’ll be joining a small, collaborative team where you’ll have the opportunity to make a visible impact on the organisation’s growth.
The role offers variety across membership, partnerships and commercial development, with the opportunity to build relationships across Australia’s independent retail sector and help shape new opportunities for MGA and its members.
The position is based at our Malvern office with hybrid working arrangements, and some interstate travel and attendance at industry events and networking functions will be required.
If you’re commercially driven, enjoy building relationships and want to take ownership of a growth portfolio where you can see the impact of your work, we’d like to hear from you.
