Cubic Defence Australia is seeking an experienced Integrated Communications Project Manager to lead the delivery, sustainment and modernisation of critical communications capabilities supporting defence training systems and operations. Based in Townsville, this role offers the opportunity to contribute to nationally significant programs while leading technical teams, managing strategic suppliers and supporting the continued evolution of advanced communications infrastructure.

About the Role
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Integrated Communications Project Manager will be responsible for the Integrated Communications Program, discipline-aligned projects and the leadership of Integrated Communications staff. The role will manage, maintain, support and modernise Communications Subsystems to ensure ongoing operational effectiveness, reliability, availability and alignment with customer and program requirements.
A key focus of the position will be vendor and stakeholder engagement, including strategic supplier relationship management, supplier performance, technical and commercial negotiations, and the coordination of external partners to ensure solutions and services meet contractual, operational, technical and program objectives.
The role will also support Cubic’s professional services business, contribute to business development activity,
identify opportunities for capability enhancement and growth, and represent Cubic in relevant customer, vendor and industry forums.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as an assistant to the Program Manager for Training Area Technical Systems and projects.
- Sustain Communications and Telemetry Subsystem operational readiness and availability.
- Develop and modernise CTS capabilities and support overall CTC-LIS Mission System development.
- Assist with capture management for base and training area communications.
- Represent Cubic’s RF and LTE business by identifying and developing opportunities within the program.
- Lead, manage and support Integrated Communications team members, including their professional development.
- Prepare and manage submissions across Department of Defence and other government panels.
- Perform discrete project management activities in support of Cubic’s products and services in Australia.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the Program Manager.
About You
You are a commercially aware and technically capable project leader with strong experience across complex communications networks, stakeholder engagement and vendor management. You can translate technical requirements into practical delivery outcomes, lead multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the growth and modernisation of critical communications capability.
Essential Experience and Qualifications
- Tertiary education in business management or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated vendor management experience across concept and solution development, proposals, negotiation, contract management support, solution delivery and implementation.
- Background in multimedium communications networks.
- Knowledge of radio spectrum, licensing, RF planning, propagation, latency and synchronisation of carrier-grade networks.
- Experience with DMR, LMR, Wi-Fi, microwave, LTE, 5G, geostationary and LEO satellite communications systems and infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of complex networks, hardware components, systems software and operating systems.
- Ability to quickly understand system and subsystem concepts, purpose and use cases.
- Experience upgrading, modernising and future-proofing networks and network infrastructure.
- Robust technical and complex problem-solving capability.
- Experience managing small to medium technical projects.
- Proven internal and external stakeholder engagement skills.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience maintaining and managing multimedium communications networks and infrastructure.
- Experience with off-grid power systems, including solar and battery storage systems design, delivery, operational support and management.
Location and Travel
This role is based in Townsville, Queensland. The successful candidate will be required to travel throughout Australia and overseas to support this and other Cubic projects.
