The Opportunity
An opportunity has become available for a Senior Payroll Officer to join a busy payroll function supporting approximately 1,000 employees. Working within a highly manual payroll environment, you will play a critical role in maintaining payroll operations during a period of maternity leave cover within the team. This role requires a robust payroll professional who can confidently manage BAU payroll responsibilities, investigate discrepancies, analyse reporting, and is comfortable processing payroll in a more manual environment. This position will suit someone who enjoys getting into the detail, has advanced Excel skills, and can confidently work through payroll issues with minimal direction.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-end payroll processing across a workforce of circa 1000 employees
- Managing fortnightly payroll cycles for both permanent and casual employees
- Interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreement conditions and payroll legislation
- Investigating payroll discrepancies and resolving payroll-related issues
- Maintaining payroll accuracy,
compliance and data integrity
- Reviewing payroll reports and identifying anomalies
- Performing payroll reconciliations and audit checks
- Managing manual payroll calculations and adjustments
About You
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in an end-to-end payroll processing role
- Must have Advanced Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs and formula analysis
- Able to work independently and take ownership of outcomes
- Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience working within large and complex payroll environments
- Strong investigative and analytical skills
- Comfortable working with manual payroll processes
- High attention to detail and ability to identify issues proactively
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
