Eden Ritchie Recruitment are seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to deliver professional environmental health and regulatory services, supporting the protection of public health, safety and environmental standards within the community.
This is a varied, hands-on regulatory role encompassing inspections, licensing, food safety, investigations, compliance and enforcement. You will apply relevant legislation, policies and professional judgement to achieve effective and timely regulatory outcomes.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Deliver environmental health and regulatory services in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and standards
- Assess applications for licences, registrations, permits and approvals
- Undertake inspections, monitoring and compliance activities across food businesses, personal appearance services, public health risks and other regulated premises
- Undertake and support food safety auditing functions under the Food Act 2006
- Investigate complaints, notifications, service requests and environmental health incidents
- Gather and assess evidence and progress appropriate compliance, enforcement and legal action
- Prepare technical recommendations, statutory reports, approval conditions and briefs of evidence
- Provide professional environmental health and regulatory advice to businesses, customers and stakeholders
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous improvement and emergency management activities
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- Experience administering environmental health and public health legislation within a local government or regulatory environment
- Strong knowledge across food safety, environmental protection, public health risk management, licensing, compliance, investigations and enforcement
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, standards and technical guidelines
- Experience undertaking inspections, investigations, statutory assessments and regulatory decision-making
- Strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prepare technical reports, briefs of evidence and recommendations
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team
Essential requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualifications recognised by Environmental Health Australia Inc, VETASSESS or the relevant Branch Manager
- Current C Class Driver Licence
- Current Blue Card
Desirable:
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant specialist discipline
- Local Government Authorised Persons Asbestos Training Certificate
- Food Safety Auditor training
