About the role

We are seeking a team oriented, practical, and collaborative Mechatronics & Project Engineer who thrives in a diverse, whole-of-process role. This position offers a balanced split between Mechatronics, Robotics & Systems Development and General Engineering Support. You will bridge the gap between heavy mechanical hardware, industrial controls, and high-level software.

Working closely alongside our Engineering Manager, Mechanical Fitters, Apprentice, and IT/Software Expert, you will support automation and robotics projects, help develop our advanced condition monitoring hardware, support general mechanical/electrical engineering across the workshop, and support our operator training on all new automated equipment.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, program, and debug control logic using Ladder Diagram (LD) and Structured Text (ST) in Omron Sysmac Studio (NX/NJ platforms) and CX-One for new and existing workshop automation projects
- Configure multi-axis motion control (Omron servos, VFDs) over EtherCAT and EtherNet/IP
- Develop SCADA and operator HMI applications for process control and telemetry
- Collaborate with our Programming/IT Expert to develop and refine our proprietary Condition Monitoring hardware
- Integrate line-scanning vision technologies, PLCs, industrial PCs, and satellite telemetry (Starlink) to transmit real-time belt monitoring data to JLV and mining client dashboards
- Draft clear, concise user manuals, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and work instructions for newly introduced PLC-based automated systems

- Support hands-on training sessions for production operators and maintenance staff to ensure smooth technology adoption and safe daily operations
- Support the Engineering Manager with 3D CAD modeling, component design, and assembly layouts using SolidWorks
- Design low-voltage electrical schematics, motor control circuits, and field sensor layouts
- Work hand-in-hand with our Mechanical Fitter and Apprentice to build, wire, assemble, and test physical equipment

About you

- Strong knowledge and experience in Mechatronics, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or a trade background (e.g., Industrial Electrician / Dual-Trade Fitter) with proven multi-disciplinary experience
- Practical experience programming PLCs in Ladder Logic (specifically Omron platforms) and developing HMI/SCADA interfaces
- Excellent written communication skills for creating explicit work instructions/manuals, and an approachable style for training operators
- Strong interpersonal skills, an approachable communication style, and a genuine desire to document work and share knowledge with colleagues
- Willingness to undergo mine-site inductions, medicals, and occasional travel to site locations
- Strong theoretical engineering background coupled with hands-on mechanical and electrical capability

- Foundational capability in 3D parametric CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred) - desirable
- Understanding of industrial PC hardware, vision systems (line scanning), or networking (Ethernet/Starlink integration) - desirable
- Restricted Electrical Licence or Disconnect/Reconnect endorsement - desirable
- Current Driver's Licence - desirable

Benefits

- Diverse and engaging scope: a balanced mix of office-based 3D design, shop-floor programming/builds, edge-technology monitoring development, documentation/training, and occasional site travel
- Great team culture: a flat, supportive, and friendly working environment with direct mentorship from trade, engineering, and IT leaders
- Professional growth: hands-on training in SolidWorks (if required), specialized conveyor monitoring tech, and mine-site exposure
