MLC is seeking an experienced and people-focused Payroll Manager to lead our payroll function and deliver a high-quality service to staff across the College.

As Payroll

Manager, you'll lead a highly valued payroll function while driving continuous improvement, enhancing systems and processes, and helping shape the future employee experience across the College.

Reporting to the Director of People and Culture, this is an exciting opportunity for a payroll professional who combines solid technical expertise with a passion for customer service, continuous improvement and team leadership.

Leading a small payroll team, you will oversee all aspects of payroll operations including payroll processing, superannuation, payroll tax, statutory reporting, compliance, payroll systems and process improvement initiatives. Working closely with People and Culture, Finance and Technology teams, you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of payroll services across the College.

Some Of Your Primary Duties And Responsibilities Will Include

- Leading and developing the Payroll team to deliver an accurate, timely and customer-focused payroll service.
- Managing fortnightly and monthly payroll processing and associated payroll activities.
- Overseeing superannuation, payroll tax, salary packaging and statutory reporting obligations.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant Awards, Enterprise Agreements, legislation and College policies.
- Managing payroll systems, upgrades, reporting and process improvements.
- Monitoring payroll governance and internal controls through regular audits and reviews.




- Providing payroll reporting and insights to support decision making across the College.
- Partnering with People and Culture, Finance, Technology and College leaders to deliver effective payroll outcomes.
- Supporting the ongoing development and optimisation of payroll and time and attendance systems.
- Building positive relationships with staff and responding to payroll-related enquiries with professionalism and care.

About You





- Significant experience as a Payroll Manager or in a senior payroll leadership position.
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing payroll teams.
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, Awards, Enterprise Agreements and compliance requirements.
- Experience managing payroll functions within a medium to large and complex organisation.
- Advanced payroll systems and HRIS experience, together with strong Excel skills.
- Experience with payroll reporting, audits and process improvement initiatives.
- Proven ability to build strong stakeholder relationships across multiple departments.
- High levels of integrity, accuracy and confidentiality.
- Strong problem-solving, organisational and communication skills.
- Relevant qualifications in Payroll, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
- Right to work in Australia.
- An understanding of the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
- Adherence to all College policies and demonstration of behaviours in accordance with the Victorian Child Safe Standards.
