Procurement Manager – HV & Substations

We’re working with a growing electrical infrastructure business looking to bring technical procurement capability in-house as its HV project pipeline continues to grow.

You’ll take ownership of meaningful HV equipment and subcontract packages , working closely with estimating, engineering and construction teams from initial scope and RFQ through tender evaluation, commercial review and recommendation to award.

The opportunity will suit someone who understands the technical side of what they are buying. You should be comfortable getting into drawings, scopes, specifications and supplier submissions yourself, identifying gaps, exclusions, interfaces and delivery risks without needing engineering to do the first review for you.

What you’ll be doing

- Prepare and issue RFQs and RFTs for HV equipment, materials, specialist services and subcontract packages
- Build tender packages covering scopes, drawings, specifications, schedules and commercial requirements
- Review supplier and subcontractor submissions across technical compliance, price, lead time, qualifications, exclusions and commercial risk
- Manage tender queries, clarifications, bid levelling and evaluations
- Review and negotiate supplier and subcontractor terms and conditions
- Prepare recommendations for award
- Build strong relationships across the HV supplier and subcontractor market
- Work with estimators, project engineers, design and construction teams to turn project requirements into clear, procureable packages
- Identify risks early around scope gaps, interfaces, programme, warranties, long-lead equipment and subcontractor capacity
- Help improve procurement templates,



workflows and governance as the function develops

What we’re looking for You’ll need genuine exposure to HV or electrical infrastructure packages , which may include substations, switchgear, transformers, protection and control systems, transmission or distribution works.

You should also be able to demonstrate:

- Hands-on RFQ/RFT and tendering experience
- The ability to read and interpret technical drawings, scopes, specifications and datasheets
- Supplier and subcontractor tender evaluation
- Robust commercial judgement and experience reviewing contractual terms
- Understanding of subcontractor scopes, interfaces, methodology and programme constraints
- The ability to operate independently and move a package forward without excessive technical support
- Clear written tender, evaluation and supplier documentation

Your current title does not need to be Procurement Manager. We are also interested in hearing from HV estimators, procurement engineers, project procurement specialists and electrical project engineers who have genuinely owned supplier or subcontract procurement packages.

What matters is that you understand both the technical package and the commercial process .
