About the Role
You will support the ongoing safety and security improvements at Ashley Youth Detention Centre (AYDC) in Deloraine through maintaining the safety and security by controlling access to the centre, screening, contraband, monitoring surveillance cameras and managing personal security equipment. You will typically work 8‑hour rotating shifts, including morning shifts (6:00am start) and afternoon shifts (1:45pm start). Please note that additional shift patterns, including evening or night shifts, may be introduced in the future.
This role will see you
- Operating the Gatehouse Secure Entry bag scanner and body scanner, being alert to potential contraband and undertaking secondary searches when authorised and where necessary.
- Managing the secure sally port entry, ensuring the secure entry and exit of service providers and contractors, including auditing of all equipment and tools on entry and exit.
- Monitoring live CCTV footage from the AYDC Control Room, which includes tracking movements, logging significant events and reporting any issues.
- Issuing and tracking radios and body‑worn cameras.
We’re looking for someone who brings
- Previous experience in a similar role (such as security officer, control room and/or CCTV monitoring) will be highly regarded
- Strong interpersonal, cooperative and conflict‑resolution skills
- High attention to detail and situational awareness
- Commitment to DECYP values and child‑safety standards
- Currently hold or have the ability to obtain Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP)
