Local Government Engineering Services is a Civil & Structural Engineering consultancy, with offices based in Devonport TAS, Inverell, Maclean and Port Macquarie NSW. We deliver a complete range of services on medium to large sized projects including Project Management, Civil & Structural Design, Bridge Inspection Services, Surveying and Building Design. An opportunity exists for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our energetic office in Devonport.

About the role The successful applicant will be responsible for the management of a wide variety of civil projects. The candidate will have experience in preparing tender and contract documentation, evaluating tenders, and contract administration including construction surveillance. A proven history in delivering civil projects to local government would be seen favourably.

Your duties may also extend to the investigation, design and management of projects in all forms of civil and structural works; roads, drainage & stormwater, project management and subdivisions.

The candidate will also have substantial civil design experience and be capable of managing projects through the investigation, concept design and detailed design phases. This will include reviewing design documentation prepared by engineers and technical staff, providing technical direction, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and ensuring designs are practical, compliant and suitable for construction.

The role will also involve preparing design fee proposals,



developing project scopes and methodologies, liaising directly with clients to confirm project requirements, and managing project budgets, programmes and deliverables. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating workflow across engineers, designers and drafting staff to ensure projects are appropriately resourced and delivered efficiently.

The candidate will have genuine experience in similar roles and a commitment to developing solid client relationships is essential, as is the ability to ensure outcomes align with company goals. The role also requires the candidate to support and mentor junior engineers and technical staff; as such excellent communication and leadership skills are essential.

Essential Skills & Requirements

- Minimum 10 years experience in a similar role
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Civil)

- Driver’s License

- Proficient in Microsoft Products

- Experience in 12d/AutoCAD/Drains
- Demonstrated experience in civil infrastructure investigation and design
- Experience reviewing and coordinating civil design documentation
- Experience preparing project scopes, methodologies and design fee proposals
- Ability to liaise directly with clients and manage project expectations
- Experience managing project workflow across engineering and technical staff
- Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets, programmes and deliverables
- Experience mentoring and providing technical direction to junior engineers and technical staff
