Senior Developer in Test – Java, APIs & Microservices

CloudMarc is seeking a highly technical Senior Developer in Test to join a major enterprise transformation program in Melbourne.

This role is designed for someone with a genuine software-engineering background who has chosen to specialise in Quality Engineering. You will need to be comfortable discussing Java, APIs, microservices, framework architecture and coding approaches with experienced developers and Engineering Managers.

This is not a traditional automation-testing position focused only on maintaining Selenium scripts. You will design and build quality-engineering solutions using strong software-development principles.

The opportunity

You will work closely with developers, Engineering Managers and delivery teams to build quality into complex digital platforms and distributed systems.

Your responsibilities will include

- Designing and developing test-automation frameworks from the beginning
- Writing high-quality automation code using Java
- Building automated coverage for REST APIs and microservices
- Developing component, integration, contract and end-to-end tests
- Testing distributed systems and service integrations
- Reviewing requirements, architecture and technical designs
- Applying clean-code principles and established software-design patterns
- Integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines
- Investigating complex defects using logs, SQL, debugging and troubleshooting techniques
- Working directly with developers to improve testability and engineering quality
- Contributing reusable libraries, utilities and framework components
- Identifying the appropriate level and type of automated coverage
- Supporting release readiness and continuous-delivery practices

What we are looking for

You will have:

- Strong hands-on Java coding experience
- A solid software-engineering or development background
- Experience with Maven
- Strong TestNG or JUnit experience




- Hands-on REST API and microservices testing
- Experience designing automation frameworks from scratch
- A strong understanding of clean code and software-design patterns
- Experience with Git and team-oriented development workflows
- SQL and database-validation experience
- Strong debugging, investigation and troubleshooting capability
- Experience integrating tests with Jenkins, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI or similar platforms
- The ability to communicate confidently with senior developers and Engineering Managers

Highly desirable

Experience in one or more of the following would be valuable:

- GraphQL
- Docker or Kubernetes
- Kafka or another event-streaming or messaging platform
- AWS or Azure
- Contract testing and service virtualisation
- Performance or resilience testing
- Cloud-native and distributed-system testing
