Senior Azure Java Stack Software Engineer | Java | Azure | Full Stack | NV1 | Canberra

We’re looking for a Senior Full Stack Java Developer to join a high-performing technology team delivering secure, large-scale enterprise applications and data platforms.

This is an opportunity for an experienced software engineer who enjoys staying hands-on while also taking ownership of technical solutions, architecture and delivery. You’ll be working across Java, Spring Boot, Azure, microservices, APIs and distributed data platforms, solving complex engineering problems in a highly technical environment.

The role has a strong backend focus, but we’re looking for someone who is comfortable working across the full stack and understands how the different layers come together.

What you’ll be working on:

- Designing, developing, testing, deploying and supporting secure, scalable Java applications
- Building Spring Boot microservices, REST APIs and integrations
- Working across distributed systems, event-driven architectures and large-scale data platforms
- Designing end-to-end solutions across application, integration and data layers
- Working with high-volume data ingestion, processing, search and distribution platforms
- Troubleshooting complex production issues and performing root-cause analysis
- Optimising application performance, reliability and operational resilience
- Working across Azure cloud environments
- Contributing to CI/CD, automated testing and DevSecOps practices
- Taking ownership of solutions from initial requirements through to production support
- Providing technical leadership through design, code reviews, mentoring and knowledge sharing




- Contributing to architectural decisions, technical investigations and continuous improvement

We’re looking for someone with:

- 7+ years’ experience developing enterprise applications using Java
- Strong experience with Spring Framework and Spring Boot
- Strong full-stack development experience across backend, frontend and integration technologies
- Experience with JPA/Hibernate, Maven, REST APIs and JSON
- Strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems and event-driven architecture
- Experience working with large-scale data platforms and technologies such as Kafka, NiFi or Elasticsearch
- Strong SQL/database experience and an understanding of data modelling and query optimisation
- Experience with Git, Jenkins, CI/CD and automated testing
- Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure
- Strong understanding of secure coding, performance tuning and software engineering practices
- The ability to take ownership of complex technical outcomes and work with a high degree of autonomy

Desirable:

- React or Angular
- TypeScript / JavaScript
- Docker and Kubernetes
- Terraform or Ansible
- Linux administration
- Experience with up-to-date observability platforms
- AI-assisted software engineering tools

Canberra | Hybrid 12-month contract + extensions
