Senior Mechanical Engineer - Pump Systems & Manufacturing

Kewdale, Perth WA Full-time | Hands-on, design-to-delivery role

Challenge Pumps is an established leader in mine dewatering and engineered pump systems. As we continue to grow our operations and expand our in-house manufacturing capability, we're looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team and take a leading role in the design, optimisation and production of our custom-built pump systems.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys solving practical mechanical problems and seeing their designs progress from concept and CAD through to machining, fabrication, assembly and final product.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you'll work closely with our Engineering, Production and Sales teams to design, develop and optimise pump systems and associated mechanical equipment. You'll be involved in both our existing product range and bespoke customer projects, with a robust focus on practical design, manufacturability and continuous improvement.

Day-to-day, you'll:





- Design and customise pump systems using SolidWorks
- Produce manufacturing, fabrication and project drawings
- Develop engineered solutions from client and project requirements
- Design and optimise components for machining, fabrication and assembly
- Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifications and technical documentation
- Support Production, machining and QA with technical and design requirements
- Liaise with suppliers, fabricators and subcontractors
- Contribute to R&D;, product optimisation and continuous improvement

About You

We're looking for an experienced engineer with a robust mechanical mindset who understands both how to design a component and how it will actually be manufactured.

You'll bring:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 5+ years' experience in mechanical design engineering
- Strong SolidWorks or comparable 3D CAD capability
- Practical experience working within a manufacturing environment
- Experience designing parts and assemblies for machining, fabrication and manufacture
- A sound understanding of tolerances, materials and design for manufacture
- Strong mechanical problem-solving, communication and organisational skills
- Permanent Australian work rights

Experience with pumps, rotating equipment, mining equipment, CNC machining, heavy industry or fabricated mechanical equipment will be highly regarded. Membership or eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia is desirable.
