Our client is a fast-growing, cutting-edge Sydney-based FinTech scaling its digital lending, risk management, and customer service platforms. They are building a new operational engineering function to ensure their high-demand systems scale safely, reliably, and efficiently.

The Prospect

We are seeking a Senior Engineer - Operations/Support to serve as the founding technical pillar of a brand-new operational engineering squad. Positioned directly at the intersection of Core Engineering and Support, this role is designed for someone who thrives on solving real-world production challenges, eliminating operational friction, and building durable solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Production Reliability & L2 Support: Diagnose complex production issues, analyze root causes, and deliver durable code fixes, scripts, workflows, and runbooks across TypeScript/React applications.
- System Optimization: Identify patterns in recurring incidents and deliver incremental engineering enhancements that improve performance, scalability, and maintainability.
- Automation & Modern Tooling: Automate repetitive operational tasks and leverage modern agentic AI-assisted tools to investigate issues, streamline documentation, and accelerate practical fixes.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Platform Engineering, Product, and Support teams to prioritize high-value reliability and infrastructure improvements.




- Leadership & Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior team members as the team expands, fostering disciplined coding practices (unit/integration testing) and strong operational habits.

What We Are Looking For

- Tech Stack Mastery: Strong commercial experience with TypeScript and React, backed by solid full-stack fundamentals and distributed microservices experience.
- Engineering Mindset: A background in Senior Software Engineering, Application/Platform Engineering, or technical Support Engineering with meaningful coding capabilities. (FinTech experience is not required!)
- Pragmatism Over Perfection: You favor steady, incremental progress over greenfield-only projects and know how to make sensible trade-offs to deliver value quickly.
- Diagnostic Intuition: Proven ability to navigate logs, monitoring tools, and metrics to track down complex system bugs.
- AI-Curious: A forward-thinking approach to leveraging AI tools and automation to optimize workflows and reduce manual effort.
