Your Work

We are looking for a “Simulation Education Specialist 100% (m/f/d)” to define and advance VirtaMed’s approach to simulation-based education across our portfolio. You will translate surgical training needs and educational best practices into effective simulation exercises, proficiency-based curricula, assessments, performance metrics, and product-development requirements.

VirtaMed’s ambition is to advance simulation from optional practice to a recognized component of surgical training and assessment. The role will help develop the educational rigor, assessment capabilities, and supporting evidence needed for VirtaMed content to be adopted by institutions and, over time, considered within formal pathways established by professional societies, boards, and governing bodies.

You will partner across Product Development, Clinical Content, Customer Success, and Commercial teams, contributing simulation-education expertise to jointly develop effective and scalable solutions. The role will connect educational strategy, product development, and customer needs to support adoption, customer value, and product differentiation without directly owning commercial accounts or sales targets. Your responsibilities include:

Simulation Education and Product Development

- Define and maintain VirtaMed’s approach to simulation-based education, including standards for exercise design, curriculum structure, assessment, feedback, and proficiency-based progression.
- Translate surgical competencies and training needs into measurable learning objectives, intended learner behaviors, and actionable product requirements.
- Lead the educational design and review of simulation exercises, cases, assessments, performance metrics, and instructor guidance.
- Evaluate whether exercises reliably train or assess their intended skills, identify unintended strategies, and guide improvements through expert review, learner testing,

and data analysis.
- Educate and influence product managers, developers, engineers, and other stakeholders so educational requirements inform development decisions.

Curriculum and Assessment

- Establish a standardized proficiency-based training framework that can be applied across VirtaMed’s portfolio.
- Organize exercises into structured curricula with appropriate sequencing, practice, progression criteria, and completion rules.
- Distinguish between training and assessment use and ensure that guidance, feedback, metrics, and scoring are appropriate to the intended purpose.
- Define meaningful performance metrics and proficiency criteria that reflect intended learner behaviors and distinguish between performance quality, errors, and efficiency.
- Identify curriculum, exercise, assessment, and evidence gaps and translate them into a prioritized development roadmap.

Evaluation, Data, and External Collaboration

- Analyze simulator performance and study data to evaluate exercises, metrics, curricula, and learner progression.
- Review evaluation and validation findings and translate relevant results into improvements to products, curricula, metrics, and development standards.
- Collaborate with surgeons, educators, training institutions, and selected customer sites to inform curriculum and product development.
- Partner with Customer Success to create scalable curriculum frameworks, implementation guidance, and educational resources that help customers integrate VirtaMed solutions into their training programs with meaningful outcomes.
- Equip Commercial and Customer Success teams with credible educational positioning, supporting evidence, and best practices for customer engagements.
- Establish a structured feedback loop so customer and market insights inform curriculum, assessment, and product-development priorities.
- Support ongoing and current studies across VirtaMed’s customer base by advising on research questions, exercise selection, curriculum configuration, proficiency criteria, metrics, data requirements, and simulator limitations.
- Analyze and help customers understand simulator data while ensuring that responsibilities for study ownership, scientific interpretation, and publication remain appropriately defined.

Initial Priorities

- Establish a standardized proficiency-based training framework across VirtaMed’s portfolio.
- Review existing exercises and curricula to identify educational, assessment, and evidence gaps.
- Create internal standards and documentation to guide future exercise, curriculum, metric, and assessment development.
- Translate identified gaps and validation findings into a prioritized development roadmap.

- Assume educational and data-support responsibility for customer studies already in progress and establish a consistent approach for supporting future study requests.

Your Profile

Required Qualifications

- Degree or equivalent applied experience in health professions education, medical education, simulation, learning sciences, instructional design, medicine, nursing, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
- Builder mindset with the initiative and adaptability to establish new approaches, influence without direct authority, and create structure in a growing organization.
- Ability to translate educational needs into actionable product requirements and lead work from needs analysis through testing and implementation.
- Strong communication, collaboration, facilitation, and influencing skills, with the ability to work independently across functions, cultures, and time zones.
- Demonstrated experience in simulation-based education, curriculum or assessment development, procedural training, or educational product development.
- Practical knowledge of competency-based education, deliberate practice, proficiency-based progression, and performance assessment.
- Experience analyzing educational or performance data and designing or reviewing simulation evaluation or validation studies.
- Professional fluency in English.
- Ability to travel internationally on an occasional basis, including travel to (VirtaMed’s headquarters in Switzerland or USA) for onboarding and periodic collaboration.

Preferred Qualifications

- Advanced degree in health professions education, medical education, simulation, assessment, learning sciences, or a related field.
- Experience developing procedural or psychomotor-skills training in surgical or medical simulation.
- Experience evaluating simulation exercises, assessments, performance metrics, or proficiency benchmarks.
- Experience working in MedTech or with product managers, software developers, engineers, and clinical experts.
- Experience supporting investigator-initiated or collaborative simulation studies.
- Proficiency with analytical tools such as R, Python, SPSS, SAS, or equivalent.
- Experience working with professional societies, specialty boards, or formal training bodies.
- Familiarity with one or more relevant surgical specialties.
- Additional language skills

End statement

At VirtaMed, we are shaping the future of surgical training through high-fidelity simulation, outcome-driven education, and close collaboration with healthcare professionals and partners around the world. Our goal is to help clinicians reach measurable proficiency sooner and ultimately contribute to safer and better patient care.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to directly influence how surgical simulation is integrated into education – working closely with customers, clinical experts, and our internal teams to turn real-world training needs into meaningful and scalable solutions.
