Lead from the Front with a Growing Civil Contractor

Our client is a highly respected Tier 2 civil contractor with more than 50 years of industry experience, delivering a diverse range of civil construction and maintenance projects across Queensland.

Their projects include large-scale recreational parks, road rehabilitation and extension works, carparks, schools and water infrastructure.

With a strong pipeline of projects ahead, they are looking for an experienced Civil Leading Hand to join their permanent team and play a key role in the successful delivery of projects across the Greater Brisbane area.

About the Role

Reporting to the Site Manager and Project Manager, you will provide hands-on leadership to civil and construction crews of approximately 3-10 workers, including employees, labour hire and subcontractors.

This is a genuine site-based leadership role where you will lead by example, coordinate day-to-day activities and help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, productively and to the required quality standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading and supervising site crews, labour hire and subcontractors.

- Providing clear day-to-day direction and leadership on site.

- Ensuring safe, efficient and productive work practices are followed.

- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, production and efficiency.

- Coordinating materials, services and resources to ensure works are delivered on time and at optimum cost.

- Working in accordance with project specifications, contract requirements and statutory obligations.

- Implementing and following company Integrated Management System and Project Management System procedures.

- Completing daily reporting covering site activities,



delays, variations, resources and other issues.

- Monitoring production rates, costs and waste and providing feedback to the Project Manager.

- Leading toolbox meetings and ensuring hazard identification, risk assessment and control processes are followed.

- Maintaining professional relationships with clients, subcontractors and site personnel.

- Supporting quality control and ensuring works conform to project specifications.

The role requires someone who is prepared to get involved on site, lead by example and take ownership of their crew and assigned works.

What We're Looking For

We are interested in hearing from candidates who have a strong background in civil construction, machine operation or a relevant trade and are ready to take the next step in their career.

You will ideally have:

- Proven experience working on civil construction projects.

- Experience leading or supervising a small site crew.

- A solid understanding of civil construction and bulk earthworks methodologies.

- Practical understanding of machine operation.

- Strong commitment to safety and quality.

- Ability to communicate effectively with crews, subcontractors, clients and management.

- A professional approach and the ability to lead by example.





- Valuable organisational skills and the ability to monitor daily production and site activities.

Trade-qualified carpenters are highly regarded, as are experienced civil machine operators and candidates with relevant operator tickets. Experienced tradespeople or operators who are ready to step into their first Leading Hand role are also encouraged to apply.

Requirements

- White Card - mandatory.

- Current Driver's Licence and reliable own transport - mandatory.

- Civil/construction project experience.

- Carpentry trade qualification - highly regarded, not essential.

- Civil machine operation and bulk earthworks experience - highly regarded.

- Relevant operator tickets - highly regarded.

What's On Offer

- Permanent position

- $42 per hour permanent rate

- Overtime after 38 hours per week

- First 2 hours overtime at time-and-a-half, then double time

- Monday to Friday roster

- Paid lunch

- Rain days paid up to 38 hours per week

- Site vehicle provided when travelling from site to site, or $28 per day car allowance

- Work across a strong pipeline of civil projects throughout Greater Brisbane

The Projects

Projects will predominantly be civil in nature, including large-scale recreational parks, road works and water infrastructure, with some commercial construction components associated with civil projects.
