Develop the corporate strategy and five-year plan that shapes the direction of a major energy business.
- Corporate strategy and planning mandate
- Investment, M&A; and valuation analysis
- Major Australian downstream energy and fuels business
In short: A senior corporate strategy role with one of Australia's largest energy businesses, owning the corporate strategy and multi-year plan, coordinating enterprise planning and assessing investment and partnership opportunities for executive and Board decisions. 7 years in corporate strategy, consulting, corporate development or investment banking required.
D'Arcy Weil is recruiting a Strategy & M&A; Manager on behalf of one of Australia's largest energy businesses, operating across the downstream energy and fuels sector with a substantial national footprint and a growing set of energy transition interests. Sitting within the corporate strategy function and reporting to a senior leader in the team, the role works alongside executive leadership, corporate development, finance and the operating divisions on the questions that shape the company's direction over the next decade.
This is a mandate with genuine consequence. The business is navigating the structural shift in the energy sector while integrating recent acquisitions, growing its retail and convenience footprint and building out its energy transition and future-fuels position.
The role turns market, shareholder and performance intelligence into clear strategic direction, developing the corporate strategy and five-year plan, pressure-testing where and how the business should invest, and delivering the analytical rigour and executive-ready recommendations that inform capital allocation,
M&A; and transformation decisions. It suits a candidate from a leading consulting firm, an investment bank or a high-calibre in-house strategy or corporate development team, ready to own the analysis behind decisions that reach the Board.
The Role
- Lead the development, refresh and ongoing stewardship of the corporate strategy and multi-year plan, keeping it current with market dynamics, shareholder expectations and business performance
- Coordinate the strategic planning cycle across the business, synthesising insight from multiple sources into transparent, well-structured recommendations for executive and Board consideration
- Assess acquisitions, investments and partnership opportunities through strategic, commercial, financial and valuation lenses, supporting capital allocation and investment prioritisation
- Build and interrogate financial models, valuations and scenario analysis that underpin transaction and investment decisions
- Prepare high-quality materials for executive and governance forums, contributing to Board briefings and stakeholder engagement, including major integration and transformation programmes
- Lead and contribute to priority strategic projects requiring cross-functional coordination and senior stakeholder engagement across the operating divisions
About You
- Degree in Business, Commerce, Economics,
Engineering, Finance or a related discipline
- 7 years in corporate strategy, management consulting, corporate development or investment banking
- Manager-level or above experience at a leading strategy consulting firm, or an equivalent in-house corporate strategy or corporate development role
- Strong financial modelling, valuation and scenario analysis capability
- A proven ability to prepare executive-level recommendations and lead complex cross-functional workstreams
- The commercial judgement and presence to engage credibly with senior leaders
- Full Australian working rights
What's on Offer
- Base of $180,000–$220,000 plus superannuation and bonus
- Ownership of the corporate strategy and five-year plan for a major energy business
- Direct exposure to the executive and Board on decisions of genuine consequence
- Breadth across strategy, M&A;, investment, integration and the energy transition
- A recognised platform into senior strategy, corporate development and commercial leadership
- Flexible hybrid working from the Melbourne or Sydney office
Apply with a CV and a brief profile covering:
- The corporate strategy or planning work you have led and its impact
- Your M&A;, investment or valuation experience, and the transactions you have supported
