About the role The position of Superintendent – Underground Electrical focuses on ensuring the safe and compliant management of underground and open pit electrical systems. The role involves overseeing all high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical infrastructure, power distribution, substations, and both fixed and mobile electrical equipment. Additionally, the role involves managing mining technology and communication systems essential for underground operations.
NPL operates in a complex environment that requires the successful applicant to be a self-starter, with strong ability in delivery to support the mines successful operation whilst coordinating the efforts of your team members to complete projects according to plan in a timely and safe manner.
Duties
- Provide protected effective leadership of underground and open pit electrical, HV and power distribution systems by leading, coaching and developing your team of Specialists, ensuring underground electrical infrastructure, substations and equipment are compliant, reliable and fit for purpose.
- Deliver UG electrical and technology activities within approved budgets and resource plans whilst ensuring defects are identified, prioritised and rectified based on risk, statutory compliance and operational impact
- Develop National capability and succession pathways within underground electrical and technology disciplines whilst complying with PNG Mine Safety Legislation, electrical regulations,
HV switching procedures, site standards and risk control.
- Promote ethical behavior, transparency and accountability across the underground electrical and technology teams with a culture of discipline, professionalism and accountability
Skills & experience
- Electrical Trade qualification with HV competency, or recognised tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Statutory certification required for UG HV electrical supervision
- Highly organised, proven leadership and extensive experience in underground electrical maintenance, communication and power systems
- Coordinate electrical maintenance and technology activities to align with underground production schedules, support cost control through efficient execution and reduced unplanned downtime
- Previous experience working in Papua New Guinea or a comparable remote international mining operation is highly desirable, as the role requires adaptability, cross-cultural communication and consistent delivery in a complex operating environment
