The TAFE NSW Manufacturing Centres of Excellence (MCoE), are National Centres of Excellence, a joint initiative between the Australian Government and NSW Government under the National Skills Agreement.

MCoEs are an innovative education model to tackle the manufacturing skills challenge for NSW and Australia. Located in Western Sydney, the Hunter, and the Illawarra, each centre specialises in different areas. These include advanced manufacturing with robotics and 3D printing, supporting clean energy in net zero manufacturing and sustainable manufacturing practices, supporting the heavy manufacturing industry, and supporting new and existing workforce build the skills they need for the future.

By partnering with other CoEs, TAFEs, universities, and industry, these nationally networked centres ensure training aligns with real-world job requirements. The MCoEs offer short courses, microskills, and will soon deliver higher apprenticeships to help individuals become job-ready or enhance their skills for future opportunities.

About the role

TAFE NSW is seeking an experienced Technical Officer to be based at our MCoE campus in Newcastle (Tighes Hill).



This Centre offers education and training to support net zero and sustainable manufacturing. This role is a temporary full-time position until 30 June 2028.

This is a hands-on role supporting training delivery within a manufacturing learning setting, where you will help create an engaging and practical space for students to learn and build their skills. Working closely with the Senior Technical Officer, teachers and students, you will support the smooth day to day running of classes through set up, basic maintenance, troubleshooting and ensuring facilities are ready and safe to use. You will also contribute to developing a collaborative ‘make a space’ style environment, where students are encouraged to design, create and experiment.

Your work will play a key role in enabling high quality, practical learning experiences and ensuring equipment and resources are available, functional and fit for purpose.

The successful candidate must be willing to travel regionally as required to the other two MCoE campuses at Wetherill Park and Wollongong, and to support Mobile Training Units in regional areas.

About You

You have a genuine interest in manufacturing and enjoy working in a hands-on environment where no two days are the same. You are confident,



approachable and a strong communicator who can build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including students, teachers and technical staff. A natural people person, you are comfortable engaging with students, providing guidance and helping them feel supported in a practical learning setting.

You are proactive and reliable, with the ability to organise your work, problem solve on the spot and assist with maintaining equipment and facilities. Your positive attitude, teamwork mindset and willingness to learn will enable you to thrive in this collaborative and student focused role.

To be successful in this role you will hold a:

- Relevant skills, knowledge and experience appropriate to the role and particular trade/vocation/skills area OR Certificate IV or higher qualification in relevant discipline.
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience of use, care and maintenance of tools, equipment, materials and techniques used in trade/vocation/skills area applicable to the role.
- Proven ability to create, modify or adapt equipment or other resources to meet particular requirements.
- Demonstrated organisational skills and ability to work as a member of a team with minimal supervision in area relating to the role.
