ABOUT THE ROLE

Position

We are offering a great opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Ranger to join our Health and Environment team on a casual basis.

Reporting to the Team Leader Rangers, the key responsibilities of this position are as follows:

- Enforce the provisions of the Local Government Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Companion Animals Act, Impounding Act and other laws as required by Council.
- Undertake the duties of animal control in accordance with relevant legislation and Council policies and protocols, including conducting of patrols, seizing and impounding of dogs found in public places, investigation of complaints relating to the proper care and control of animals, registration of animals and caring for impounded animals and arranging euthanasia of animals as necessary.
- Assist in the management of Council’s pound.
- Undertake the duties of parking patrol, including issuing parking infringement notices in accordance with the Infringement Processing Bureau’s protocol and format.
- Monitor and patrol public places so that usage is in accordance with relevant statutes and Council policies.
- Attend to public safety risks regarding stock on road.




- Investigate and record non-compliance with relevant legislation.

This casual position will be engaged through a labour hire arrangement. You will work up to 76 hours a fortnight in accordance with the Ranger roster, requiring 7 day coverage (daily shifts can be as early as 6am and as late as 6pm).

To be successful you will bring

- Certificate IV Local Government – Ranger qualification or extensive experience in a compliance/enforcement ranger position.
- SEINS (Self-Enforcing Infringement Notice Scheme) qualification or equivalent and/or eligibility to obtain such qualification.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to prepare and give evidence.
- Understanding of risk management and safety issues and the ability to follow safe working practices, particularly around the correct handling and care of livestock and domestic animals.
- Proven ability to deal with a broad range of customers and community representatives in a courteous and professional manner.
- Proven ability and reliability to work with minimum supervision.
- Availability and wilingness to work weekdays and weekends, and between the spread of hours of 6am-6pm.




- Class C driver licence.
- Experience in a parking patrol / ranger position within local government (highly desirable).

- An hourly rate of $43.16 to $53.27 (inclusive of casual loading), dependent upon skills, experience and qualifications. Penalty rates for work undertaken on weekends and public holidays will also apply.
