Take ownership of purchasing and inventory for an established Australian healthcare business where getting supply right has a genuine impact on people’s lives.
Highgate Healthcare is looking for an organised, commercially minded and proactive Purchasing & Inventory Coordinator to join our Adelaide team.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership — managing purchasing, building strong supplier relationships, maintaining appropriate stock levels and making sure the right products are available when our customers need them.
About Highgate Healthcare
For more than 40 years, Highgate Healthcare has been supplying cutting-edge healthcare equipment and solutions across the hospital, aged care, rehabilitation and disability sectors.
We source an extensive range of healthcare equipment from Australia and internationally and support customers with equipment supply, hire, servicing, installation, training and specialist solutions.
Our culture is underpinned by six values: Execution, Nimbleness, Humility, Integrity, Continuous Improvement and Happiness. We value people who take responsibility, look for better ways of doing things and follow through on what they say they will do.
The Opportunity
As our Purchasing & Inventory Coordinator, you will play an important role in ensuring our products are available when and where they are needed.
Working across procurement, suppliers, inventory and internal stakeholders, you will take ownership of purchasing activities and help us maintain effective inventory levels across a diverse and growing product range.
This is not simply an administrative purchasing role. We are looking for someone who can understand the bigger picture, anticipate requirements, identify issues early and take action.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating purchasing and procurement activities across our product range.
- Preparing and managing purchase orders from placement through to delivery.
- Maintaining effective relationships with Australian and international suppliers.
- Monitoring stock levels, demand and upcoming purchasing requirements.
- Supporting inventory planning and maintaining appropriate stock availability.
- Monitoring supplier lead times and proactively managing potential supply issues.
- Following up outstanding orders, backorders and delivery discrepancies.
- Maintaining accurate purchasing, product and inventory information within business systems.
- Working closely with sales, warehouse, operations and management teams to understand upcoming requirements.
- Reviewing inventory movement and identifying slow-moving, excess or potentially obsolete stock.
- Supporting stocktakes, inventory reconciliations and investigation of discrepancies.
- Identifying opportunities to improve purchasing processes, inventory controls and supplier performance.
- Assisting with pricing, freight and other purchasing-related information where required.
- Providing clear reporting and updates on purchasing, inventory and supply issues.
- Contributing to broader operational and continuous-improvement initiatives.
About You
You may already be working as a Purchasing Coordinator, Procurement Officer, Inventory Coordinator, Supply Chain Coordinator or in a similar role and be ready to take greater ownership.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Previous experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory or supply chain coordination.
- Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Exposure to international shipping and logistics.
- Experience working with inventory or ERP/business management systems.
- Confidence dealing with suppliers and following issues through to resolution.
- Strong Excel and general systems capability.
- The ability to analyse information and make practical decisions.
- Good commercial awareness and an understanding of the relationship between purchasing, stock levels and customer demand.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Clear and professional communication skills.
- A proactive approach — you identify what needs to happen and take responsibility for progressing it.
Experience within healthcare, medical equipment, aged care, disability, wholesale, distribution or another product-based environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
What We Offer
At Highgate Healthcare, you will be joining an established business with a strong purpose and an appetite to continue improving.
You can expect:
- Autonomy and ownership of your area.
- A role where your decisions have a tangible impact on customer service and patient care.
- A supportive and hardworking Adelaide-based team.
- Exposure to an extensive range of healthcare products and international suppliers.
- Ongoing systems and product learning.
- The opportunity to identify and implement improvements rather than simply maintain existing processes.
- Free Friday lunches and team BBQ celebrations.
- A culture that genuinely values execution, integrity, humility, nimbleness, happiness and continuous improvement.
Interested?
If you are an organised and proactive purchasing professional who enjoys taking ownership and wants to contribute to an organisation making a genuine difference in healthcare, we would like to hear from you.
Please apply with your CV and a brief covering letter outlining your relevant purchasing, procurement and inventory experience.
