About the role
The Head of Faculty is responsible for the learning areas assigned to the Faculty and the management of the teaching and support staff involved in the delivery of the academic program. This includes strategic planning and development of the curriculum and associated academic responsibilities in order to promote the academic agenda in the School and ensure that academic rigour is progressed in all levels of the School.
We are offering an ongoing full-time teaching role with a fixed term five-year appointment to the Position of Responsibility, Head of Faculty | Health and Physical Education, which includes a time release component.

What you will be doing
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality learning and teaching that addresses the curriculum requirements across Years 7-12, across the School’s 3 campuses using the Australian, VCE and IB Curriculums.
- Undertake recruitment, onboarding, development coaching and reviews of staff within the Faculty and promote goal setting for professional improvement through actively encouraging lesson observation, feedback and professional development
- Actively contribute to the strategic management of the academic program as part of the Heads of Faculty Team.
- Support the implementation and instrumentalisation of the Geelong Grammar School Pedagogical Framework and Instructional Model.
- Undertake research on curriculum and pedagogical initiatives to ensure that Geelong Grammar School is at the forefront of academic initiatives appropriate to its environment.
- Assist in reviewing student learning and achievement data to improve the academic programme.
This will include the appropriate recognition of academic excellence.
- Review academic policies collaboratively when required.
- Ensure that all members of the Faculty Team are kept abreast of strategic directions and understand expectations and how their role is essential in achieving the outcome of an exceptional education.
- Ensure consultation with faculty on strategic initiatives and represent their views in discussions and meetings.
- Chair regular Faculty meetings and co-ordinate discussion within the Faculty (and relevant staff at other campuses) to review the whole school approach to the academic program.
- Actively engage with stakeholders within the Faculty regarding planning and budgeting and the dissemination of information about the activities.
- Promote a positive and collegial atmosphere in the Faculty.
- To undertake professional development and further education relevant to the role.
- To demonstrate Courage, Compassion, Curiosity, Civility and Connection and the application of the Strategic Imperatives.
- Undertake such other duties as may be determined by the Principal/Vice Principal.
What we are looking for
- An experienced teacher with a sound understanding of the curriculum and academic needs of students, including those associated with a boarding environment.
- Previous experience working in a management or coordination position with responsibility for the management of other colleagues.
- Proven capacity for strategic planning and well-developed analytical and research skills
- Proven capacity to lead change.
- Excellent digital skills and a proven ability to design and deliver curriculum in both digital and face to face environments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
including the ability to advise and liaise across all levels of an organisation and with parents and guardians.
- Proven organisational and facilitation skills and an ability to coordinate colleagues and the day-to-day activities of the Faculty.
- A demonstrated interest in the development of curriculum, assessment practices and the academic program.
- Well-developed report writing skills.
- Sound administrative and financial management skills.
Qualifications:
- Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) Membership which includes a National Police Check undertaken by VIT.
- Post graduate qualifications in Education [Desirable].
- Career development related to people management skills [Desirable].
- Anaphylaxis Course (22578VIC - Course in First Aid Management of Anaphylaxis) [Essential].
- Asthma Course (22702VIC - Course in the Management of Asthma Risks and Emergencies) [Essential].
- First Aid Course (HLTAID011 Provide First Aid Course) [Essential].
- CPR Course (HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation [Essential].
