About the role
Groote Archipelago Regional Council is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join our team in Darwin.
Reporting to the Director Corporate and Financial Services, the Finance Manager is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial and management information to support strategic planning, performance monitoring and operational decision-making across Council.
This is a hands-on leadership role with a strong focus on management reporting, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, asset accounting, internal controls and continuous improvement. You will work closely with business units across Council and provide oversight, guidance and mentoring to the Senior Finance Officer and Payroll and Finance Officer.
What you'll be doing
- Preparing accurate and timely financial and management reports, including variance analysis, commentary and business insights.
- Coordinating Council’s budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes in collaboration with business units.
- Providing financial modelling, scenario analysis and advice to support business cases, projects and operational decision-making.
- Overseeing asset accounting, internal controls, financial compliance and the integrity of Council’s financial data.
- Supporting the annual audit and leading financial year-end processes.
- Providing guidance and mentoring to the Finance team and promoting a collaborative and accountable team culture.
- Identifying opportunities to improve and automate financial systems, processes and reporting tools.
What we're looking for
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance,
Business Administration or a related discipline.
- Current CPA or CA accreditation.
- At least eight years’ experience in management accounting or a similar senior finance role.
- Experience in contract management and audit processes.
- Proven experience supervising or mentoring finance staff.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and a high level of capability across accounting and financial management systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate it clearly to a range of stakeholders.
- High-level interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
- A strong commitment to ethical conduct, accountability and continuous improvement.
