About the team

The Strategic Planning Team helps shape Kingston's future by developing strategic planning policies, projects and initiatives that respond to the needs of our growing community. Working across Council and with external partners, the team provides strategic advice and leads planning outcomes that support sustainable development across the municipality

About this opportunity

As Team Leader Strategic Planning, you will lead a team of planning professionals and oversee the delivery of Council's strategic planning program. You'll guide the delivery of complex planning projects, policy development and planning scheme amendments, while providing expert advice to senior leaders, Councillors and key stakeholders.

This role requires strong planning expertise, leadership capability, stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to lead complex projects that deliver community outcomes.

What you’ll deliver

- Leadership and development of a high-performing Strategic Planning team
- Delivery of complex planning projects, policies and planning scheme amendments
- Expert advice on planning maters to Council, Executive Leadership and stakeholders
- Effective engagement with government agencies, community groups and industry stakeholders
- Robust project governance, planning and prioritisation and delivery to support organisational objectives

Your skills and experience

- Extensive experience in strategic planning, policy development and planning scheme processes
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including leading and developing professional teams
- Proven experience managing cross-organisational and multi-disciplinary projects, including complex and high-profile initiatives
- Sound knowledge of the Victorian planning framework and relevant legislation




- Excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
- Experience managing team work programs, priorities and budgets
- Tertiary qualifications in Urban Planning or a related discipline
