Job Description
Ditch the FIFO lifestyle! Live and work in the stunning region of Otago. Enjoy a great outdoors lifestyle with walking, biking, hunting & fishing spots on your doorstep. Situated a 1 hour drive of Dunedin, with its great schools and education through to University level. Spend more time exploring with a Mon-Fri 9-day fortnight roster, so you can enjoy a long weekend, every other week.
This new position has been created to deliver short and medium term mine plans to enable the safe, efficient and profitable extraction of ore. This role is the key link between the long-term plans originating from the Technical Services and Projects team and the Operations execution.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across the technical services team
- Ensure compliance with all legislative and company requirements
- Lead and develop a high-performing Technical Services team through effective coaching, mentoring and performance management.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Ensure appropriate workforce capability, succession planning and resource allocation to meet operational requirements.
- Provide leadership and governance over short and medium term open pit mine planning activities.
- Ensure mine designs, schedules and planning assumptions support safe, practical and economically optimised open pit mining outcomes.
- Monitor performance against budget, forecast and Life of Mine plans, identifying risks and opportunities.
- Ensure survey systems, controls and processes maintain the required levels of accuracy, compliance and reliability.
- Provide strategic direction and oversight of fleet management systems to support protected and efficient mining operations.
- Ensure critical and statutory systems are reliable, compliant and fit for purpose.
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of technologies that enhance safety, productivity and operational performance.
- Manage key stakeholder, contractor and vendor relationships to ensure effective service delivery and business outcomes.
- Monitor open pit costs
- Manage service and supply contract(s) in accordance with the contract provisions and within OGC contract management frameworks with the aim of delivering the most value for OGC
- Drive cost reduction initiatives that do not compromise safety or quality
- Work closely with the Continuous Improvement team to deliver improvement projects
- Benchmark open pit performance against industry best practice.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mine engineering or related discipline essential.
- Post grad diploma in business or management preferred.
- 10+ years of open pit mining experience including significant technical experience
- Experience in managing teams.
- Demonstrated contractor and commercial management experience
- Strong knowledge of mining software.
- Strong knowledge of fleet management principles and data management.
