About Novigi
Novigi is the data and technology partner to the Financial Services Industry with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Wollongong and Colombo, Sri Lanka. At our core, we are data-driven transformation and business optimisation experts. We partner with our clients to transform their business functions through the clever use of data and interoperability. We do this by offering a range of services and solutions.
Description /Purpose:
Novigi supports Fund Accounting through project delivery and BAU in our Managed services teams. We require an experienced Senior Business analyst with applied fund accounting experience, who can translate fund accounting requirements within the registry to the target accounting software, maintaining accounting standards and best practice through to completion. Generalist BAs can elicit requirements; they cannot independently validate unit pricing logic, distribution processing, general ledger, or reconciliation outcomes against fund accounting principles and APRA obligations.
The role addresses a structural risk in BAU. Much of the current fund accounting BAU runs on undocumented knowledge, with minimal repeatable or sustainable process behind it.
The position sits inside the Apex Operational Transition and BAU delivery context and is expected to reduce the Finance and Accounting workstream risk that has repeatedly surfaced as a critical-path and quality concern.
Responsibilities / accountabilities
- Analyse, document, and validate business and functional requirements for fund accounting processes with a primary focus on financial statements, general ledger, daily cash flow, reconciliations and Acurity transaction processing.
- Consult as the technical bridge between Novigi engineering and Client fund accounting/finance teams - translating accounting rules into system logic, and translating system behaviour back into terms finance stakeholders can sign off on.
- Establish and continuously improve the processes that support fund accounting through project transitions. The role is expected to understand and optimise process, not simply operate it.
- Support best practice and governance of the current fund accounting practices to a standard that is repeatable and sustainable.
- Independently test and verify that system outputs (financial statements, ledger postings, cash flow and reconciliation outputs) meet accounting requirements and standards.
- Design and capture process documentation to a professional standard.
- Identify and document data lineage and control points across fund accounting workflows to support APRA CPS 230 operational resilience and CPS 234 obligations.
- Analyse and triage fund accounting discrepancies, working with system engineers to repair and resolve root cause issues.
- Use AI-enabled analysis tools where appropriate to accelerate requirements traceability and reconciliation checking — as a productivity lever, not a substitute for accounting judgement.
Required experience
- Demonstrated experience in a formal Business Analysis practice with applied fund accounting experience in superannuation, funds management or wealth administration.
- Knowledge of AASB 1056 and demonstrated experience producing or analysing superannuation financial statements.
- Working understanding of the main accounts in a superannuation fund trial balance and registry transactions.
- Familiar with bank statements and reconciliation processes.
- Understanding of fund-level data and the cash flows involved in member investment choice processes.
- Working knowledge of unit pricing sufficient to understand its impact on fund accounting outputs - the role is not accountable for performing unit pricing.
- Robust process engineering and documentation skills - able to design, structure and capture process documentation that others can follow and audit.
- Formal business analysis experience: requirements elicitation, process mapping, user story / functional specification writing, UAT design and execution.
- Experience working with, or implementing/supporting, superannuation administration platforms (Acurity, Sonata, Superb/Calibre, Nexus, HiPortfolio, or equivalent) is highly regarded.
- Comfortable operating in a regulated environment and conversant with APRA prudential standards relevant to super trustees and administrators (CPS 230, CPS 234).
- Strong stakeholder management.
Qualifications
- Business Degree in Accounting, Information systems or similar (preferred)
- RG146 compliant (preferred)
- Systems / Applications
- Acurity/Sonata/Superb/Nexus/HiPortfolio or relevant Superannuation software
- Accounting software such as Business Central, Oracle, Great Plains
- Data and modelling – SQL/Excel
